Just Checking In

Jul 27, 2008

I have not been on for a while, but that is the story of my life, finding time...anyhoo..I recently had an episode that you should all know about, well, you that are reading my story!!

A few weeks ago, Monday night, I had severe pain on the right side, under my boob like behind my rib...I was in the middle of a class that I take and had to leave..I had a 45 minute ride home, but still when I walked through the door, I was in agony...it was terrible pain, like giving birth kind of pain!

I could not sit, stand, lay, bend, nothing...then all of a sudden, maybe 1 hour after I got home, I was perfectly fine, like nothing ever happened...

The rest of the week went by, no problems at all...Saturday night, 2am, I woke up with this severe pain, but it was like 10 times worse...I called the ambulance and got myself a ride to the ER.  Monday at 4pm I had my gallbladder removed...who knew!  I was pretty scared, but the nurses at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ are excellent, they made me feel like all was under control and I was at ease.

That all being said, if you feel anything funny, CALL THE DR!  DO NOT WAIT TILL ITS TOO LATE!!!!!!!

BTY, today I weighed in at 206, that is a loss of 72 pounds!  GO LISA, GO LISA!~!!!  I AM LOVIN THIS!!!

WOW...what a feeling!!!!

How terrible I feel, I have not written an update on here in too long!
I am doing pretty well, I can not believe how much I let my weight interfere with my daily life, activities, work, what else....EVERYTHING!!!!!  After thinking about things, the way I can describe my feeling about life right now is...GREAT!

I am 4 1/2 months out and am down 45 pounds.
The hardest thing to date is that it is really hard for me to have one small serving and be OK with that.  I am totally full, but I am so used to going for seconds or putting more on my plate...it is very weird being full on less than half of what I ate before...wow, what a feeling!!!!

I will try to come on to the board more often!!!

Recovering...Slowly but Surely

Oct 26, 2007

It is 1 week and couple days after surgery...I am doing well...My larger incision is getting better, it hurt each time I moved, but every day, it is better and better!

I am on soft, mushies, pureed now.  A sample day:
7:30a - Protein Shake
10am - cheesestick
12p - 4 oz chili
3p - SF pudding
5p - cheese stick
8p - won ton soup with 1 whole wonton

It really depends on the day, sometimes I feel hungrier, and I try to fit in more mushies, but then I suffer, I feel overfull!  I always think, shoot, I am stretching my stomach!  But, I think it is more a mental thing than anyting, it is only an extra tablespoon full of something.

My weight is down to 250...and has been this way since Wednesday.  Total loss from surgery 8 pounds, since preop diet - 22.  Not bad.

I want to know if everyone goes through bandster hell?  I will post about it later today.

No more to report for now.

I'M A LOSER BABY!!!!!!!!!!

Oct 17, 2007

It is official, I am banded for life, a bandster, loser, on the way to skinnyville...however you want to put it!

First, I want to thank all you who were there for me, listened to me complain about my pre-op diet, gave me advise, answers to my questions, and all the support that I needed to get through this!

Yesterday was my new birthday...Here is the day...

Woke up about 10:00a, stressed, anxious, wanting to kill my husband for nothing..(SORRY DEAR)

Was supposed to arrive at the hospital at 11:40a, but got there at about 12:00....and I am NEVER late, so add some more stress there, I blame traffic, traffic, my husband, traffic..lol!!!  It was all me, just nerves I presume.

Signed in, registered, got a room, asked for a larger gown, would not want my unmentionals hanging out while walking to the bathroom!!!!

The nurses and assistants were amazing at the hospital.  They were all on top of my needs, blankets, tissues, I felt like royalty.

IV was set, temp. was taken, blood pressure, questions, questions, questions were asked, papers were signed..before I knew it, it was 12:50....

Anesthesiologist came to visit me, let me know what he would be giving me, doing, etc...I called him Dr. Feelgood when my sister had surgery last week, so that was running over and over in my head...lol

Then the surgeon came to see me, he is AWESOME!  I was getting nervous because I knew it was not long till they began, he said 15 minutes.

About 10 minutes later, I was wheeled in the OR, had to scoot from my bed to the table, 1/2 of my butt cheeks were off the table, well, not half, but a little bit on each side...LOL!  I hope you are enjoying the details!!LOL

Dr. Feelgood told me that he would see me in a little while, I don't even remember knocking out...

I woke up about 3:15p in recovery thinking about candy corns...odd - I think that the nurses around me must have been talking about them while I was waking up!!! HA!  They were also excellent, very attentive...I could not see because apparently they put some gooky stuff in your eyes so that your eyes don;t dry up...so I had to wipe that out for a couple minutes before I could see again.  I was not in pain at all..thank you Dr. Feelgood!!!!!  Just felt like I did 100 crunches

I was very nauseus, they gave me a couple of meds for that, before I knew it, I was ok to be wheeled back to my room, to see my husband again...I must have asked for him 20 times to 10 different people, I was still under!!!!!

I was back at the room at about 4:15ish...My DH was there by my side, I could not wait to see him!  I went up to have a barium scan about 5:00ish, all was in place and OK...

Had my 6 ounces of water before leaving the hospital, drs. orders...and was all signed out and on the way home by 6:00pm...I was home and resting by about 7, but pain definitly set in around 9ish when I took pain meds...

That was my day...

If anyone has any questions, please email me.  All my friends and supporters at OH helped me in what to expect, helped me with answers, etc....I want to be able to help you if I can.

Till next time, Lisa

WOW - TWO WEEKS, 14 days, 840 hours, but who is counting anyway...I have officially begun my journey...today, on my bathroom scale, I was 274, lets not even talk about it...I will take the advice of a fellow board member and try the chick broth before my evening shake, possibly I will feel a bit fuller.  I decided to have a shake for breakfast, a real lunch and a shake for din-din...with an apple as a snack and probably some nuts, depending on my mood.

Anyhoo - my two goals set are Thanksgiving - 20lbs; New Years Day -40lbs....Do you think I can do it???

I am feeling cool today...I went to see Dr. Davis and really liked him, he was quite handsome too!   Anyhoo - I was cleared for surgery, my date still stands, I am exactly 3 weeks away!  It can't come sooner!!!!  I can't wait to be on the losers bench with all my friends!

The dr. told me that it was my choice to do the preop diet, I did not have to like I thought I did, like I was told at the seminar...I was kind of bumbed cause I wanted to get a head start with the weight loss..  They I thought, duh Lis, you can still do the shakes, just cause they don't make you do it, you can still do it yourself!    So, done, next week I will be done eating all the crap and on my way to healthier lifestyle...wish me luck!

8/16/07 - update

Aug 16, 2007

have not written in a while, but have been reading and commenting on others successes...It is amazing how many friends you can make over these pages..

Went to see Dr. on Wednesday, I have to get my phych. eval, tomorrow am, and then I am done with all the pre-surgery paperwork...early next week I will be sending everything to the drs. office so they can work their magic with the insurance company.  Since I am definitely a candidate, I think that there should be no problem, but there is that think in the back of my head worrying me to death!!!

I will post another update when I get a result from the insurance company...by that time, I should also have a surgery date approved!!  Pray for me!!!!

My sister turned me on to the Lap Band surgery...we have both been overweight most of our lives, so decided we want to do the surgery together.

Tonight I will be going to a seminar where I will find out what I need to do to prepare for the Drs pre-authorization from my insurance company...Hope all works out well!!!
