Four years, four months post-op...

Apr 23, 2013

Still hanging in there... I have put on a little weight.  I think my absolute lowest weight was 157...  This morning I was 177!!!  Other than that I'm doing great.  Medically and emotionally.

I've had laser eye surgery, so I no longer have to wear corrective lenses for distance vision.

I'm four years older and 140+ pounds lighter.

I still believe had it not been for WLS I would be dead by now...

Almost 20 months post-op...

Aug 10, 2010

O.K.!  I've noticed that as people get further and further out from their surgery, they tend to post less and less on their blogs here at Obesity Help...  If they are YouTubers they make fewer and fewer videos...  And if they are FaceBookers they tend to drift further and further from their Weight Loss Surgery friends and more towards all those OTHER people...  LOL  I guess all that is part of the normal progression of this journey of ours.  I know in my case it has been...

Beth and I rarely make videos for YouTube any more because we are more or less THERE and not much changes from week to week or even month to month.

I hardly ever come to OH, except to update my Health Tracker, because it is a cool way to visualize my journey.

As for FaceBook, I tend to keep in touch with the weight loss surgery community there more than anywhere.  Beth has over 1000 FaceBook "friends" 900+ that are weight loss surgery patients, and I have over 800.  So we keep our feelers out for "friends" who have questions and just need encouragment.

Have you heard about the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America yet?  http://wlsfa.org is the website.  The WLSFA is an non-profit organization that has been established primarily to help people who need WLS, get it...  We get Doctors to donate surgeries, and do fund raising to cover the rest of the costs.  I say "We", because I am currently the President of WLSFA.  We have lots of activities in the works and there are tons of things that we need volunteers for...  Go to the website and join us, please?

Beth and I have also begun to do the Angel thing...  Be at the hospital with people on the day of surgery, and visit them later... We aren't doing that as a part of OH or the hospital...  We are just doing it on our own.  So if you are in the Savannah, Georgia area and would like a couple of formally fat Angels to help you out give us a shout.

We are staying involved...  We are greatfull every day for the chance we have been giving to make our lives better.

BTW, I weighed 157 this morning...  Down from 315.  That's 158 lbs. lost.

One year post-op visit to the surgeons office...

Dec 22, 2009

Well, we (Beth and I ) have made it to our one year post-op anniversary!!!  I feel like I've been extremely fortunate to have done so well and to have lost so much weight!

The "official" pre-op weight was 312 lbs.  but, I remember my high being 315.  Just before we started our pre-op liquid diet Beth and I had a few days of "pig out heaven" for one last fling.

Last week at the surgeons office I weighed 179 lbs. with my clothes on...

That is 136 lbs gone.  Beth didn't have as much to lose as me, and she has lost just over 100 lbs.  That is 236 lbs. of fat that is no longer all around us.

We both feel better, and I think we look better too...  go check out our before and after pictures.

Long time no Blog...

Dec 06, 2009

Well... Here I am, still kicking.  Lots of stuff has happened since last I posted.  I've lost quite a bit more weight.  I was 177 this morning and that is a personal low for me since I can't remember when, Jr. High maybe...

Yeah, the loose skin thing is here...  I found a great product that helps alot in that area...  www.underworks.com has a line of "compression" garments that are inexpensive and really work well.  I use the #993 which is a mens tee made of some streachy stuff.  It is doubled in the belly area, and really keeps all the jello steady.  In fact I've had more than one person ask how I was keeping so toned!!!  LOL  I'm the kind of guy who shows anyone who asks, but if you aren't, no one will ever know.

Beth is down 100 lbs. from her high, and I'm down 138 from mine.  That is 238 lbs. between us!!!  Think about that.  238 lbs.  I'm not going to elaborate much, but suffice it to say that some things have changed considerably around the Tipton household. (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

I wish I knew how to get our before and afters on OH.  Anyone know how to submit them?

I hope it won't be so long between posts next time.

Still losing...

Jun 28, 2009

Here it is the end of June, and I'm still losing.  You can tell from looking at my weight loss chart that I've had a pretty good trend in the downward direction.  I tend to have a stair step weight loss pattern.  Sometimes I level off for up to 10 days then slide down 5 or 6 lbs. in just a few days.  Most of the time when I have a leveling off, it is because I don't eat right.  A few to many carbs.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the progress and looking forward to the future.

Stuck Again....

May 03, 2009

I weighed 231 again this morning.  Which is what I weighed last week.  We had company in from Arkansas this week end, and we did eat out a few times, but I was good so I don't think that was an issue.  Beth is also kinda stuck at about 160 and she wants to drop another 10 lbs before her class reunion on the 23rd of May.  So beginning this morning we are doing the 5 day pouch test.  The first few days is back to liquids, then proteins for the last two days.  Very low carbs.  I personally think that this is a natural plateau and that it will break by it's self, but a turn back to a more strict diet won't hurt.  I can do almost anything for five days.

Losing again...

Mar 29, 2009

Down to 244.0 lbs. this morning.  Beth went through our closet yesterday and ended up with 6 or 7 trash bags of clothes that are either to big, or will be by next winter.  We are going to box some of them up and send them to family members who can still wear those sizes, and the rest are going to Goodwill industries.

From looking back on my posts, it looks like I've lost 9 lbs. in the last 15 days.  I'll take that !!!!  LOL

Beth and I are doing great so far.

I guess you'd call it a stall...

Mar 12, 2009

I'm finally back down to where I started a week ago...  So if I was weighing weekly I'd just say,"No loss this week..."  But, since I weigh everyday (sometimes more than once... LOL) I've seen my weight rise from 253 up to 257 and back again.  Maybe, I'm back on track now.  Nothing has changed.  Diet is the same.  Excercise is the same.  Maybe it was the phase of the moon.

Two Months Post-Op ...

Feb 16, 2009

Well, here I am two months after RNY Gastric Bypass surgery...  I haven't really been hungry yet.  I've seen foods that I WANTED to eat, and sometimes I eat because I know I SHOULD eat, but I haven't actually been hungry.  I guess that is a good thing.  If I get real busy I can actually forget to eat, now that is way different.  LOL

At my highest I weighed 315 lbs. and so far my lowest has been 257 lbs. (I'm up two lbs. this morning for some reason...) which is a total of 58 lbs. so far.

Beth and I start with our personal trainer Thursday the 19th of Feb., which is the day after my 53rd birthday.  We are really looking forward to getting started on a supervised excercize program.

I'll update this space later to let you know how it goes...
