Whew! What a tremendously LOOOOONG day! I am pleased to report that it is over, and that my husband is doing well. The staff at UIC so far has been fantastic, and although I won't be able to see him until visiting hours at 11:00am, I was with him until 10:00pm. The surgery lasted 4 VERY long hours, with 2 in recovery. I felt so cautiously confident in a positive outcome, mainly because of hanging around with all of you, that I was not as nervous as I thought I would be. Thank you all for your thoughts and well wishes, and support throughout the process!

Jen and T -- I know you've been on an absolute rollercoaster ride this week -- I'm so sorry I couldn't be here to help keep you calm but guess what.. it's here now. Tomorrow your DH starts his new life and let me tell you, it's the most wonderful thing he could ever do for himself or you or your kids or ANYONE -- mostly HIMSELF. The first day will be rough.. lots of pain from lots of things.. DON'T BE AFRAID TO PUSH THAT PAIN BUTTON.. You'll miss it when it's gone! But this I will guarantee you -- no matter what happens from this day forward, it's better than the road he was on til now. I will keep you and your family in my prayers and try to get in touch with you later in the week. Keep your chin up, girl!!-- Stef

Congratulations on your surgery date! IT'S JUST FOURTEEN SHORT DAYS AWAY!!! WAAAHOOO!!! I have some Zen Wisdom for you - Nothing exists but momentarily...One thing flows into another...observe things as they are, let everything go as it goes. This is to put everything under control in its widest sense. --- May God keep you close to his side as you travel your new journey. You will have ups and downs. You can always turn to us, your AMOS family, we will give support, comfort and encouragement. You will find this will be the best thing you could ever have done for yourself as well as your family. I know that was true for me. Keep us posted when you reach the "other" side. I pray for a speedy and easy recovery for you. Don’t forget to update your profile at least monthly. We all like to see how we are doing!!! Make sure you take pictures. It’s great to see the new you emerge!!! Not to mention the look on YOUR face when you look at those pictures and compare them in a few months! It’ll be a BIG WOW!!! Please remember too, that this is a *tool* to use. Make sure you use it wisely. The first year it’s pretty easy, after that I’ve been hearing that it gets increasingly difficult. Choose the right foods and measurements wisely! Good luck and God Bless!!! RNY 10/31/03 257/133 I’M AT GOAL!!!
