Who's afraid of the big, bad RESTAURANT?!

Feb 22, 2014

I will admit, a big part of our social life revolved around restaurants. So, this surgery is a big change for both of us. I assured my SO that we would be able to go to restaurants, in time. And parts of the experience might change. Sure, I can't wolf down a few plates at the Mongolian grill or Brazilian rodizio (place is amazing), but I can enjoy an appetizer or small meal...and it will be cheaper! Hey-o!

February is a busy month for me, filled with Valentine's day, both parents' birthdays, and his birthday. So, we usually go out to eat a lot. The other night I took my family out to eat at a nice steakhouse. Since I am on soft foods, my options were limited to chili, butternut squash, and meatballs. Though there's no protein, I opted for the squash. Because I already have a pot of chili and meatballs at home. The squash was fantastic, too! I wasn't too tempted by much at the table, and I did not drink during the meal. The waitress did seem astonished when I ordered the squash, though.

Me: I'll have the butternut squash please.

Waitress: And for your meal??

Me: Just the squash please! (smile)

Waitress: That's all you want for your meal?!?!

Me: Yes please! (extra large smile)

I only ate about 1/4c of squash, maybe less, and brought the rest home. I think I will end up freezing it into a few small portions to add to food when I can consume more.

Tonight, we are celebrating my guy's birthday at a restaurant. It's a fantastic Greek restaurant that I enjoy, his favorite. I checked their menu beforehand, and have been going over my options for a few days. Sounds silly, but having a plan before I go in will help me stick to the path. I'm going to order the lentil soup. I love lentil soup anyways, and it will be fun trying a new thing off their menu. Usually I end up with the spinach pie, moussaka, or chicken kebabs. I think the lentil soup will be a good texture, and still have protein. If I can fit it in, I may have a little feta. Because it's feta. I would eat feta off a flip flop. I will refrain from the fried dough covered in honey and chopped nuts.

So, that's where I am! It will just be nice to get out and see the other family for an evening :-) It's also nicer to dress up now that I'm down a few pounds! My jeans are getting loose so I'm about due to go down a size. Excuses to go shopping...
