Where to start... Well I am a 38 year old, five foot 3 inches tall and weigh 284 pounds. I am Married to a wonderful man who understands me and the pain I am going through. We have a 1 yr. old Cavellier King Charles Spaniel named Tye who keeps me sane and moving(he's the reason I still walk).
I have been fat since about puberty and my weight just keeps going up and up. I hit my heaviest at 292 pounds last year and once again tried to lose the weight because of problems with my kness and feet. I have tried diets like slimfast, nutrisystem, south beach, and also diet pills(what a speed trip).
I have tried execise (have all the usual equipment.... in the basement), and even went as far as hiring a personal trainer in a gym to help me. That lasted about 6 months then the gym burnt down and i never went back. I have tried weight watchers but because I am in a rural location it was difficult for me to get there because I can't drive.
So far to date I have talked to my doctor about wls and have beenn sent to see a specialist in Ottawa by the name of Dr. Dent. He has recommended me for Out of Country surgery and gave me a package to start the process of getting pre-approval from Ohip. I go to see my PCP on Wednesday of this week.
In the meantime I am trying to research everything that I can on the internet and through this site.
I will keep everyone up to date as much as I can....

I had my Dr.appointment today and got the forms filled out and ready to go to OHIP. Keeping my fingers crossed.

All the forms are sent to OHIP. Now the waiting game starts I guess. How do the rest of you handle this????
I am not sure what will happen if I am denied coverage.
June 27th, I got a call from my doctor to call Highland Hospital to arrange for my Consultation With Dr. O'Malley. Holy Shoot that means that I am approved. I called right away. I was hoping that I could get in the next days seminar so that I would be that much closer but no such luck. I have to wait until the 27th of July to do the seminar and consultation. July 28th, Well I'm back from a very long day in Rochester. We left at 7:45 am and didn't get home until 11:30 pm that evening. All in all it was a very great experience. I went to the seminar and just as Dr. O'Malley got talking the lady beside me fell asleep and was snoring the whole session. What an embarassment it was.
When I was done in the seminar, my husband joined me and we went up to have the one on one consult with the doctor. There were sveral other people from Canada having their one on ones as well so we ended up waiting for about two hours before seeing the doctor. Everything seems okay for the next step which is the Psych and nutrition evals and I hope that I get them set soon. I went to my PCP today to have more forms filled and faxed back.
Since I last posted, I have been trying to lose weight and I have managed to lose 11 lbs. I got to see one of the nutritionists at the hospital, attended a seminar that Dr. O'Malley's team requires and am now waiting for my follow up appointments. I have one on the 18th of september with the nutritionist as well as psych appointment on the same day. Husband and i will be going down the night before so that it isn't such a long day for the both of us.
Wow how time flies!!! i can't beleive that it has already been a month since I last updated my profile. I have been doing so much it's hard to say everything that has been going on. I first of all had my first followup with the nutritionist and had my appointment with the psych. everything went fantastic. The psych passed me for surgery, and the nutritionist said that if i continue the way i have the last month that she would be passing me after the next followup which is on the 16th of October. I have also lost a total of 21.5 lbs. since i started on this journey. Yeah for me.Mike my husband has been trying very hard as well and of course Tye our cavelier king charles is doing great.
