After 2 years suggesting bariatric surgery to my family doctor, I finally said that I wanted a referral to one. That was in May of 2005 .My doctor and I both tried to find a bariatric surgeon and she told me I needed to call Dr. Beau's office and book an appointment.  I called and his nurse said that without a referral from an endocrinologist there was a 8 to 10 year wait to get in. Back to my doctor who sent a referral to Dr. Dornan. I got in to see Dr. Dornan in December 06 . My weight was 293 but I had no comorbidities. I had to prove to Dr. Dornan that I had made many attempts to lose weight.  I took all of my documents with me to the first appointment  .Dr Dornan wrote a letter to nb medicare for approval for surgery.  They refused.  In February 2007 I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2.  Dr. Dornan appealed to nb medicare.  In May I had a heart attack.  Medicare approved my surgery. I lost some weight from June untill October. At my lowest in October I weighed 249 pounds. I am ashamed to say my weight now stands at 259 pounds.  I got into see Dr. B. in November 2008 and had the info session in December.  Dr.B.'s nurse called me today and booked me for my consent signing in January and may have surgery as soon as February.
