10 Days Out

Oct 08, 2016

Can't believe that it has been 10 days already since receiving my revision. Wounds are almost all healed. The urge to scratch was immense but tried my best to hold off.

I haven't really had time to sit and recuperate as my daughter, who was suppose to assist me, came down with mono. That was an ordeal in itself. Two hospitals in two days. First one said "take Tylenol and get rest". If any symptoms get worse, come back" poor kid, overnight she started throwing up and was in immense pain on her left side, as the Tylenol just wasn't doing it.

Next day, back to the hospital, except we went to the childrens hospital, as technically she is still a child. Waited two hours less, doc gave her a prescription for anti-nausea meds and a pain med and told her to take ibuprofen in between to ease the swelling in her throat and spleen, as the spleen is a major cocern if you have mono. Because now she started to get rest and was able to hold down food, she was on the mend quite quickly. Being a virus, no antibiotics were to be given. She of course will be tired for a long while yet but she will get better.

So now, back to me ha ha  Drinking smoothies now (with fresh fruit and added protein powder to my Boost Diabetic base (what I use to make smoothies with instead of water). Now a Boost is 237ml each. I can drink 2 of those a day, and man do they fill you up quickly. They take me awhile to finish. Oh and we cannot forget the water sipped on through out the day.

Only had one smoothie yesterday as I decided to try cream of mushroom soup. Now I am particular about certain things and Campbells Cream of Mushroom is my go to (there's a plug for you Campbells). While making, I added a full can of skim milk (to thin out soup) mixed in with 4 tablespoons of skim milk powder. (Little secret for added protein). I ate 1 cup of soup over an hour. It was delish!!

Have leftovers for today. In Canada, it's our Thanksgiving weekend and I am having it a my place and making the whole dinner. Even before surgery, I found that if I made the dinner, I was less likely to eat alot as I was tired from all the running around I did. So I have been making some things ahead of time for Monday, that can be re-heated nicely. Funny how less stressful it is.

Forgot to mention that I went to see my GP, one week after my surgery. He checked my belly and said nice and soft. I said "gee, what every woman wants to hear". He just rolled his eyes at me, and told me everything felt fine lol. We have a special relationship! Lol On my way out he wished me a Happy Thanksgiving and said "remember that gravy is a liquid". See, special relationship. ????

Wonder what blended turkey, potatoes and gravy would be like?? ...hmmm.

Wishing all of my counterparts, friends and acquaintances here in Canada a very Happy Thanksgiving. Be grateful and thankful for what you have and not what you wish you had.

Cheers!

Revision was Sept 28th

Oct 01, 2016

Have been home since Thursday September 29th. Prefer being at home healing but would preferI had to have less noise from my bloody neighbours who constantly yell at the little kids they are looking after. Its constant and I finally just yelled at them to "SHUT UP". Hard to heal/nap when its constant. Especially when I sleep with my bedroom window open.

Can't really say if it feels less painful now because, with my lovely luck, my period arrived with the mind numbing cramps that ALWAYS accompanies it. At least the pain meds I take, when I go to bed, give me some relief. I am medicine resistant and live with Fibromyalgia and several other co-morbidities.

I had a Boost diabetic this morning, which I actually finished in 90 minutes instead of all day that it took me yesterday. Of course, constantly sipping water all day and evening. For lunch I thought I would try a greek cherry yogurt. That took 60 minutes and quite rightly improved my mood and body. I wasnt sure how that would sit in my tummy but its been 190 minutes since eating it with no ill effects.

Really don't want to push it so thinking warm broth for dinner. Oh yes, and must go for what I call my ol' granny walk with one of my kids or neighbour....arm through their arms if balance isn't so good yet.

What has been other RNY experiences a week after their surgery?? Pros and/or cons?

Anesthesiologist & Nurse Visit

Sep 21, 2016

So had my pre-op assessment today and had to go over things pertaining to my upcoming revision from vsg to a rny.

Took all my meds & vitamins with me so had to pull out the big purse. Was making lovely noises as the meds jingled away as I was walking.

Down another 5 lbs so 20 gone in a week...how crazy is that really. I can feel all the liquids I have consumed swaying around in my belly.

Nurse went over all the paperwork I received at my surgeons office a month ago that I already knew almost by verbatim. Almost like beating a dead horse but I understand why they have to do this.

Had blood drawn yet AGAIN. They have to make sure they have that type on hand just in case. Hoping that I will not need it.

Reality is becoming real now and am getting some nerves about Wednesday. I know I will be fine.

Now I just have to break the news to my youngest that she will have to stay at her dad's place from the 28th to the 30th vice staying home alone.

My eldest daughter will be with me during the day, my dad in the evenings and my neighbour over night. So have all the bases filled. Just waiting for that home run.

Gym and Liquid diet

Sep 14, 2016

Well, I had gone to the gym all last week, and my reward was to get a doozy of a cold that is just now starting to clear up.  Needless to say, I haven't been to the gym  this week, but have been walking outside, with kleenex stuck up my nose.  Paints a lovely mental image, doesn't it.

So today I started my yummy liquid diet that consists of Boost Diabetic 5x a day plus all the water I want to drink.....yippie (in my most sarcastic voice). I can honestly say that this first day wasn't as bad as I thought it would. Bought 3 different emulsifiers to add to the vanilla meal replacement...butterscotch, strawberry and butter rum (my fave thus far)

Only 13 more days until surgery and next Wednesday, I have my appt with the anastesiologist (sp?) to go over how they will knock me out. I will also meet with a nurse to make sure all is followed. So technically 2 weeks liquid diet before and one week after surgery.  I think I can, I think I can......I have no choice if I am being honest lol

So, I had made a meet and greet with the group I over see for Manitobans, this past Sunday, and lo and behold, just me, myself and I showed up. Disappointed is an understatement to say the least.

I know I hadn't been there for a long while due to my own issues, but the things that were holding me back then, are not now, so hoping to gain some steps forward again.

i was reading all the pre surgery paperwork and it says I can't have piercings in but the problem is I don't know how to take my eyebrow and nose rings out so will ask the nurse If I can keep them in by taping over them..., will let you know if that works or not.

I am a little nervous about my revision from vsg to rny, but who wouldn't be if they are going for surgery, right?

Talk soon my lovelies,

Ciao!!!

Day 2 at the gym.

Sep 07, 2016

I wasn't feeling bad when I woke up this morning and once again hit the gym for anither 50 minute treadmill session. Bought new headphones to listen to my music and tune out the world. Just getting ready for bed and shuffling slowly and hurting....this will pass eventually, I hope.

Perhaps tomorrow I will ride the recumbent bike and give my feet and back a break. It is, afterall, the cardiovascular that I will be needing to do everyday. I will also be doing light weights again tomorrow like I did Tuesday.

Hoping eventually to start enjoying the gym, especially when my Fibromyalgia is making my body scream in excruciating 24/7 pain on top of everything else.

This is my normal everyday life that I have been dealt and will do what I must to succeed day by day. Drinking loads of water every chance I get. If nothing else, my pee is clear lol

Now I am going to try for sleep and wake up trying to convince myself to get up and go to the gym right after breakfast.....always talk out loud in a.m to give myself a pep talk and get motivated.

Hugs to all.

Keep on dreaming

Ciao!!

VSG revision to RNY

Sep 06, 2016

September 28th is the day of my surgery.....VSG to RNY. It will be 6 years and 3 months on September 28th since I had my first surgery.  Nervous and anxious but that comes with the territory

September 28th

Sep 06, 2016

6 years and 3 months to that date is when I received my VSG. This date is also the day I get my revision from VSG to RNY. VSG worked great for the first couple years then it didn't.

For the last year, I have been preparing for this day. Because bariatric surgery was new to Manitoba in 2010, a lot had to be learned, and let me tell you that our program here has grown in leaps and bounds and is more than thorough NOW. If the procedures and hoops that had to be jumped through back then like they have to be now, things would have been a lot different. But I guess we all learn new and improved ways through trial and error and time.

I am nervous, more so than in 2010. Can't explain why at this moment...perhaps because I am six years older and have had numerous health problems since. Maybe because I don't have a significant other to look after me this go round (side note....better off without that lying, cheating bastard anyways) however, I do have my kids, who are there for me...youngest is 15 1/2, oldest is 30.

I start my 2 weeks of liquid protein shakes on the 14th.....that should be fun indeed. Funny how this part I am not worried about. Protein, protein, protein...water, water, water, then sip, sip, sip after the procedure.

I am completely positive that this is the right choice for me and should have been back in 2010, but again the learning curve here was non-existant at that time, so they really didn't have the options.

You know what I am looking forward to the most......no more severe acid reflux/heartburn. More than anything, no more hot acid flowing back up through my esophagus , throat and into my mouth. How wonderous that will be!! It all takes time though, this I know.

As the day gets closer, I will post a lot more, and god willing, I will post once the surgery is complete.

Until next time, Ciao!!

Welcome One and All!!!

Sep 05, 2016

First and foremost, I have been a terrible moderator and host. I let my health and own personal issues get in the way of my group, have been unavailable and didnt want to do much of anything.

For this I apologize......

Here's to fresh starts!!!!

Hello, my name is Coreena and this is my Friendly Manitoban WLS Group.  It's not a brand new group but as of today it is a current and ongoing support group for us Manitobans who are waiting, having or have gone through surgical means as a tool to help in their own weight loss.

I would really LOVE to hear from members of this group on how they are doing, feeling, etc. To share stories and ouw own insights amongst one and other.

Even just drop a note to say hi.

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Coreena
