A White Christmas!

Dec 21, 2009

This past weekend Long Island had the biggest snowfall in recent memory. Yesterday Steve and I shoveled the car out of our garage at our apartment and then went to our old house to shovel out the walk and driveway. Since there was over two feet of snow plus drifting of much more, we knew we had a ton of work ahead of us...

In the days before my surgery I wouldn't have been able to stay out in the cold without my breathing problems getting worse and worse. I certainly couldn't shovel. We worked for hours!  Luckily a neighbor with a snow plow came over and helped us or I think we would have still been out there!

There isn't a day that goes by that I am not thrilled that I was fortunate enough to have my RNY! Before my surgery my life was basically over and now I can enjoy my retirement with my family and friends!  I lost one pound since Thanksgiving. That isn't much but before the surgery I would have gained in the double digits this time of year.

I Have So Much to be Thankful For!

Nov 25, 2009

I want to wish all of my friends a very Happy Thanksgiving tomorrow!  There are so many things that I am thankful for this year... Here is just a little list of the most important ones:

1. My wonderful husband
2. My beautiful and much healthier and thinner daughter (since her RNY last 12/1)
3. My dear son-in-law
4. Better health and less of me since my RNY
5. Fantastic friends that I have gained on this journey
6. My lovable cat Meco & my birdy Fagel
7. My grandcat Cosmo
8. Our new apartment

I guess I could go on and on because I have so much to be thankful for this year. Weight loss surgery has saved my life and given me years and years to enjoy with my family and friends!
Enjoy the day with your family!

I Finally See a Move in the Right Direction!

Nov 02, 2009

Update 11/3/09
I finally see a little move in the right direction I am down a pound to 175! I'm not thin but I am sure less fat than I used to be!   I am 122 pounds more of a success! I love my RNY and I love my renewed health!   It was the best thing I ever did for myself and I wish that I was smart enough to have done it years and years ago... If anyone is reading this that is undecided about surgery - I have had NO complications and I feel wonderful! We went to the OH Conference in Rye, NY last weekend and I had the best time of my life.  Tons and Tons of walking, dancing and I was in the fashion show too.  I shed off a jacket that was size 32 with my wow outfit underneath.  My wow outfit is a 14!   Like I said not skinny but certainly a lot less fat.  I am so happy with my thinner life! Check out my Facebook page for lots of photos from the conference.  My Facebook name is Marcia Friedel Marlowe.

My Loss is Stalled but I am Still SOOOOO Grateful!

Oct 19, 2009

I was sitting in my bedroom and going through my winter clothes from last year.  None of them fit! All of my sweaters and pants are too big!  I little bit of me is sad to see some of these things have to go... but I am packing them up for the OH Convention Clothing Exchange.  In the last couple of weeks I have gone down at least one more size!  My favorite black sweater trimmed with pearls was the first one I packed.  I hope that there will be someone who loves it as much as I did.

I am so very happy to be going to the OH Convention!  I never could have gone 120 pounds ago.  My breathing was so bad that even walking wasn't an option for me.  I am so grateful that my WLS has given be back my life.  I am looking forward to dressing up for Halloween, being in the fashion show and having a wonderful time with my daughter and our friends.  I am also looking forward to meeting so many people that I only know from OH.  I can't wait!

My One Year Surgiversary 9/22/09

Sep 22, 2009

Hello Everyone!   I am so thrilled to say that it is one year since I had my revision to RNY! I have lost 60 pounds since the day of my surgery - Not a ton of weight but it has been slow and steady.  All together, including my lapband, I have lost 120 pounds!  My life has totally turned around.  I no longer have to worry about getting out of breath. I can go shopping and carry heavy bags of groceries without worrying.  I no longer am concerned about how far I have to walk from the car to the store.  I don't need to find a place to sit down and rest.  I no longer need any meds for diabetes and I am off of all but one for asthma. I can fit in seats in theaters and in booths in restaurants.  My husband and I moved into a 2nd floor apartment and I don't worry about the stairs.  I have gone from a size 30-32 that was skin tight to a 14/16 that actually fits!  I am so happy!

I regret the time I wasted on the LapBand but my life is wonderful now...  I love my RNY because it has saved my life!  I will be turning 61 on October 4th but my RNY has given me a new start on life!

Update 9/16/09

Sep 16, 2009

Well I am home sick with a miserable cold and cough...   The last time I updated I complained that I was stuck at 180 and the scale just wouldn't move although my clothes were getting big on me.

Well I jumped on the scale this morning and my scale MOVED in the right direction.  I am down to 178!   Next week will be my one year surgiversary.  I had my RNY on 9/22/08.  What a wonderful and happy year this has been!  I have so many things to be thankful for! I lost all the weight I put back with my empty band and quite a bit more more.  All together I am down 119 pounds since before the band.  I am so sorry that I got the LapBand... I wasted so much time and pain and had to have two extra surgeries to get where I am today.  I love my RNY and I am blessed that I had that life-changing surgery!

Update 9/3/09

Sep 03, 2009

Hi everyone!
I am still terrifically happy with my RNY!  I am stuck at 180 right now but my clothes are all getting big on me.  All of my 18s are too big!  Now I am fitting in 14-16's! What a way I have come from 30-32's that were tight on me!  I know that I have said it before but I need to say it again. Getting my RNY was the best thing I ever did for myself!  I can do so much more and I take so much less medications!  I just have to say that I am HAPPY with my new life!
Here is a picture of Steve and me:

It is so good to be able to enjoy my life!

Update 8/11/09

Aug 11, 2009

Hi Everyone!  I haven't posted in a while.  Everything is going well.  My weight loss is slow but I have been so busy unpacking things that I have not had any time to go to the fitness center at our apartment complex.  I have gotten down to 180 lbs.  All together I have lost 117 pounds since before my lapband!   I still have not gotten to my goal of 140 lbs but I only have 40 more pounds to go! Life with my RNY is so much easier than life had been with the band.  I am so much healthier too!  Here is another picture of me from a couple of weeks ago.

Update 7/7/09

Jul 07, 2009

myspace layoutsI had a great appointment today with Dr. Cussatti! I am down another 15 pounds since my last visit.  It may not be fast but it is steadily going in the right direction - DOWN!   I am very happy.  I now have lost over 72% of my excess weight and he says that I am a success!  I am going to keep working until I have lost 100%!  I now weigh 182 lbs. on his scale.  I love my RNY!

We signed the lease on our new retirement apartment yesterday and we are starting to move in a few things.  This weekend we will be moving our furniture and we will have a new home.  I am so excited and so happy!  Moving is such a lot of work.  All I have been doing is packing, packing and more packing!  We had a huge garage sale for the July 4th weekend with tons of help from, Heather, John, Rachel, Areyeh and Tony.  Heather & John helped us for all three days.    I am so greatful that we have such wonderful children and friends!  We still have so much to do... It is very hard to decide what we should keep and what things we would never need again.  Our apartment is on the second floor.  I would not have been able to move to a second floor apartment 115 lbs ago!  Thank God for my RNY!
