6 Month Anniversary!

Mar 05, 2009

Holy Cow, it has been FOREVER since I have been on here!  I figured I should update my profile, even if its just for me!  Well March 8th, will be 6 months since the surgery!  I have lost 79 pounds, I was hoping for 80 but I'll take it!  This has been the most amazing experience EVER!  I have had ZERO complications, my 3 month and 6 month blood work results were excellent and I don't have any problems with eating!  I still keep my portions very small and try to get my protein and water in, but I just don't get enough water I know that.  But I'm feeling great...everyone says I look great and I am very happy.  I am in a size 14 though I still have to buy Plus size 14...the misses 14s don't quite fit me yet.   But from a size 24 pant and size 26/28 top this is great!

I have not had a stall in my weight loss.  I weigh myself every Sunday morning and have always lost something...even if its just 1 pound.  I exercise sporadically.  I am having problems with my eyes and have to wear my glasses 24/7 so I've taken a break from working out, but will start again this Monday!  But other than that, things are going great.  I have a little bit of carbs and sweets, but I don't eat very much of them.  Mostly all meats and cheese and some veggies....ugh.  I take all my vitamins and supplements.  It seems like I have had this surgery for years already!  I do get very nervous about stretching the pouch and gaining back the weight in the next 2-4 years!  But I will do my best to not let that happen!
Well I'm going to continue with my journey and hopefully lose this last 20 pounds with no problem!  This surgery has been the best thing for me!  I love everything about it!

OK, here is my monthly update! Well Saturday was 2 months since the surgery and I have lost 40 pounds even.  Its almost surreal to me.  This past month has been very good.  I am exercising 3-4 times a week and hope to increase that.  I am still eating a 1/4 c of food and haven't had many problems eating. Except peanut butter, my pouchy does not like it!  I'm also getting nauseous after drinking some of the packaged Protein drinks, but not all the time.  I still struggle with getting in my water....I don't know what it is, but I can barely get in 3 bottles a day.  But I keep trying.
I had to go shopping yesterday to buy new jeans because my 22's/24's were falling off me.  So, now I'm in a size 18 pant, which is exciting, I haven't seen that in years.  I also took my measurements again and have lost 8 inches off my hips and 7 inches off the largest part of my stomach.  I do get lots of nice compliments at work, and everyone has been really supportive!  So, I have to say...I love my RNY.  Though my hunger is coming back and sometimes I feel like I could eat alot more than a 1/4 c, but I don't tempt it.  I haven't had any real carbs per say and no sugar at all!  Amazing, before I could have never eaten like this!   So, hopefully by next month I will be down 50 pounds!  I have my 3 month blood work done on 12/9 so I'm hoping that comes out good!  I feel good and I am very excited about the future!

Wow, hard to believe 1 month ago today I was getting cut up!  What an interesting month it has been.  The first week and a half at home were ok, sore and tired but could get around. The I had my 1 week follow up Dr.'s Appt and soon after that had the worst pain in my stomach EVER. A trip to the Emergency Room ensued and they tell me I am having muscle spasms and gave me muscle relaxers.  After 3 days flat on my back on the couch, that finally went away.  So, I went back to work on the 29th and started soft foods.  Unfortunately I only made it a day and a half and got really sick. I was sick to my stomach constantly for 3 days and the Dr. gives me some Carafate to drink (which I still am) and I have been much better.  As of today I am feeling pretty good.  Still sore on my left side but nothing to bad.  I am still eating soft foods and liquids protein supplements.  I dont get in enough water I know that! But I have lost 27 pounds so thats good.  This has not been an easy road, but now that I am feeling better, I am looking forward to the future.  I have my next Dr. appt on the 15th so we'll see how that goes!  Happy 1 Month to me!!

I cant believe I did it!

Wow, I'm home from my Surgery now!  I went in at 7 am on Monday Sept. 8th and felt pretty good. I was nervous but not sick to my stomach, panic nervous! I remember getting the shot to relax me before the surgery and nothing until I woke up in recovery.  For me, I was in alot of pain.  Mostly stomach pressure from the gas and it took me awhile to get clear.  I got settled in my room and spent the rest of the day trying to wake up.  They did a real number on my throat with the intubation tube, apparently I was a little difficult.  I couldnt swallow or talk for a day and a half.  I tell you what, the greatest things in the world are those first taste of ice chips and that first popsicle!!  I finally got to walk around on Tuesday and that helped.  The gas pain was pretty bad for me until Tuesday night, it just wouldnt come out.  Also my blood sugar skyrocketed and I have to have 2 or 3 insulin shots, which I've never had in my life.  But they said that was pretty typical after this surgery.  They finally let me go home Wed. after they made sure my white blood cell count was ok.  It felt really good to get dressed and go outside!!!  Once I was home I felt so much better!  I took a much needed and wonderful shower and walked!  Now, I'm just dealing with the sore stomach muscle pain and where the drain was really hurts.  I'm trying to get all my fluids in, but thats been hard, there arent enough hours in the day!!
Well I had alot of buyers remorse the first few days in the hospital but I'm hoping once the pain starts to go away and the weight comes off, I will be one happy girl!  I cant wait to see the results!  My journey begins now!!

The Wait is Almost Over

Sep 06, 2008

Soooo, the time is near!  I got the call Friday and my surgery is offically at 9 am on Monday Sept 8th. I have to be there at 7 am, but its not far from me.  I am getting nervous but excited as well.  I will take all my measurements tomorrow and some more "Before" pics.   I still cant believe this is happening, I can remember 3 years ago dreaming about it and thinking this will never happen for me.  And then just like that it all came together.  So, here is to a new start and hopefully no major complications!  I will post again when I am home!!

Well, I finally got the call!  I will be having Surgery on September 5th.  Though I may have to change it because my BF might have his Reserve Drill Weekend that day.  But its still a date!!!  I am very excited, it has been a long road to get here but surprisingly very easy. Thank God for Blue Cross/Blue Sheild Insurance!  Ok I guess my next post will be before I head to surgery!!

C'Mon July 28th

Jul 25, 2008

Ok, so Monday the 28th I have my meeting with the NUT and I'm excited about learning about all the things I need to eat and do! My BF is a chef and does all the cooking in the house, so he is coming with me, so he will know everything too.  I just hope I get a surgery date soon!  Everything else is done and I think this is the final step!  So, I'm using this weekend to have some fun with food and then I begin the Weight Loss Journey!

Insurance Approval

Jun 18, 2008

Wow, exactly one week to the day from my Surgeon's appt, I get a call that my insurance has been approved! I had a feeling it would be pretty easy as I have Capital Blue Cross and my Dr. is a Center of Excellence for CBC, but still I prepared for "drama". So, now here it is, approval time.  And now I have my endoscopy scheduled for July 3rd at 7 am.  Yikes!! Then I make my appointment with my PCP for all the other tests, then by golly I will get a  surgery date soon...Hopefully.  Lets hope they dont find anything wrong with me, with all these tests!  But I am one step closer and find myself saying..."wow is this really going to happen?" Oh my

Surgeon's Appointment

Jun 11, 2008

Ok, well finally June 11th arrived and I met with Dr. Davidson, and everything went very smoothly.  I have researched so much, I didnt really have much to ask him.  I'm glad to know that I wont have to do a 2 week liquid Pre-Op Diet which I had read alot of people do.  I'm very healthy (as far as we can tell) so the Dr. said it was a good time to do the surgery before health problems hit me.  Now I wait for Insurance approval which should take 2-4 weeks, they said. Then I move on.  I cant believe this is finally (hopefully) going to happen.  More to come!
