The summer of 2005 was when I hit bottom. I weighed almost 270 lbs. I had lower back pain, was on 5 kinds of medications, and was put on a cpap machine. I had a stressful day at work, at that evening I thought I was going to have a heart attack. That was my wake up call that I was out of control. I finally took my internist's advice and went to an informational meeting on bariatric surgery.

For the next few months I gathered as much information as I could. I went to another informational meeting with a doctor from Hurley hospital. I read books, talked with people on OH. The more I learned, the more I realized this was something I had to do for my health and for my children. They needed a mother that was going to be there for them in the future.

I began seeing Dr. Pleatman, his dietician, and was going in for regular weigh-ins. I had to get documentation for insurance approval. Finally, in January 2006, I was approved and had a RNY on February 2, 2006.

I have been blessed by a great experience. Sure, I have thrown up meals and felt kind of crappy at times. But as of today, I am shy of 10 months out and have lost 100 lbs. That is a small person, roughly the size of my 11 year old that I was carrying around day after day. I take one pill for my blood pressure and the rest are my vitamins that will be a part of the rest of my life. And I will have a life now!! I feel that I have added years to my lifespan. I am very grateful to my doctor. I feel he has given me an opportunity to take charge of my life again.

I have neglected the board here at OH. I would like to have some friends that I can chat with and share experiences.
