Well I guess my story is like most on the OH board. I have been battling my weight most of my life. The first time I joined Weight Watchers I was 8 years old. I have tried every diet under the sun and have been successful with some for a little while, but always ended up gaining all plus more of the weight back. I hit my highest weight of 315 when I was working full time and going to school full time. When I graduated from USF I was 4 months pregnant (talk about exhausted!). During my first pregnancy I knew I had to start making changes in my life for my son. I managed to loose about 25 pounds and keep it off. Then two years later I had my second son and ended up with gestational diabetes. I got a little taste of what being a diabetic was like, and I didn’t like it one bit. Both my parents have Type II diabetes, I knew it was just a matter of time before I developed it myself. My OBGYN asked me to consider having WLS, I committed to her that I would do the research.
The first time I started my WLS research journey was in 2005 I was considering having the lab band. At that time it was a fairly new procedure and it seemed very promising. Kaiser was only doing the Gastric Bypass, so my only option with the lap bad was self pay. After doing the research I wasn’t completely ready for WLS just yet and decided to try on my own one last time. I lost about 10 pounds and ended up pregnant with my first son. The second time was in 2009 I did additional WLS research and knew I was 100% committed and ready. I was so happy I didn’t decide to have the lap band! After a ton of research, I decided the best option for me was to have Gastric Bypass RNY.
I had my surgery on August 31, 2010 at Kaiser Fremont. I could not have asked for better care. Dr. Chu and the nurses took wonderful car of me. The new chapter of my life has now started…….
