POH Medical Center

"I went into POH expecting the worst, because of the other reviews I have read here on OH, and also things patients have told me who haven't yet reviewed this hospital. I was pleasantly surprised by the service I received. The O.R. staff was excellent; I felt very safe knowing they were going to be in the operating room with me. The biggest problem I had was that my surgeon didn't order a morphine pump for me, and so I had to call down to the nurse's station every 2 hours, day and night, to get my morphine shot. But this was my surgeon's fault, not the hospital's. The nurses or PCA's generally took between one minute and 10 minutes to answer my calls, using the speaker system on the bed. Once they got my request, it would take anywhere from 3 to 45 minutes for them to fulfill my request, whatever it was. They made it clear that they were understaffed and things were "crazy," so I understood why it took them so long to help me sometimes. I will say that with only a few exceptions, every employee of that hospital was cheerful & friendly. Even the cleaning lady was a sweetheart! I did have one nurse who was very loud and pushed my pain med into my IV so fast that it hurt me. I asked her to slow down the next several times she did it. She worked a 12 hour shift, and by the time it was coming to an end, she was forgetful and pretty out of it. It's a shame that they work their employees so hard (or at least her), because patients suffer as a result. They served me food that they should not have, given my type of surgery, but I expected this to happen, because others had told me it would. I got lucky, though, because the dietitian happened to come into my room and I discussed this issue with her at length. She thought it was ok to offer VSG patients full liquids (including cream of wheat) if they were feeling ok, I told her it was not ok, that we were supposed to be strictly on clear liquids, and she understood. Overall, my stay at POH was not too bad. I found the floor I was on to be nicely laid out, the rooms were fairly large, and so were the bathrooms. Both were nicely decorated, as well, with pretty tile in the bathroom and wood floors in the rooms. I would go to POH again."
