One Year

Sep 02, 2010

It has been a year and I have lost 138lbs total.  If you would have asked me a year ago I would have told you no way.  I am now in the process of adding more protein to my day so I can build more muscle mass.  People look at me and can not believe that I was ever very overweight.  But I can and it is a daily struggle to not go and eat things that are not going to help me.   I love my new life and how active I am.

I need to Stop

Jul 11, 2010

Well I am 31 pounds past goal weight which was 189.  I started at 292 which is 134 lbs total lost.  I talked to my doctor and he told me to increase my protein from 100 grams to 120 grams a day.  All my blood work came back great.  I am not complaining about the weight loss because I can do sooooo much more than I could do before.  I get a lot of compliments on my weight loss but I also get worried people saying that I look sick.  My wife doesn't think so and she is the only one that I care what she thinks of my looks.  I work out and am not gaining any mass at all seem to losing it.  Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Past Goal

May 29, 2010

Okay it has been a while.  I am doing good just had my 6 month check up and down 124 lbs.  I just wish I would gain some muscle mass back.  I get all of my protein in Dr. told me to increase to 150 grams to see if I will level out.  I feel like if I lose anymore I will have to shop in the Boys dept. LOL.  I shave my goatee off and got asked by several people how was my treatments going.  Needless to say I grew my goatee back quik.  I have enjoyed this journey and I know it is just the beginning.  I am getting ready to start P90x with my oldest son.  We will see how that goes I am very excited.

Do you have cancer?

Dec 14, 2009

One of my friend's wife asked him if I was ill or had cancer because I was losing so much weight.  Of course he laughed and told her that I had wls.  She is always stopping me in the hall at church and asks me how I am and I smile and say I am surviving my battle.  That is a good friend that you tell him not to tell anybody and he doesn't even tell his wife.  I have not told a lot of people except those close to me about my surgery.  I feel I did it for me and my family not them.   My biggest obstacle has been my left foot and knee.  You see 2 weeks after my surgery I was walking in the front door my wife meeting me at my right and our dog on the left.  I did not want to step on the dog or my wife so I backed up and step on the door threshold wrong and tore the ligment on side of my foot and fractured the bone and my knee two days later swelled to a size of a melon.  So I have been in a brace for my knee and a walking cast for my foot.  The doctor says the week of Christmas maybe the boot will come off.  Well I still lift weights at gym and I am toning on top but my legs are a different story.  Finally found a Whey that I can do that doesn't make me gag.  It is Any Whey and it is tastless.  I am excited that I started my journey at 292 and now I am 218.  I have found myself going clothes shopping in my 16 yr old son's closet.  He has so many clothes that still have tags on them.  I have given him my 38 jeans because I am now in a very loose 34.  I still have dunlap syndrom ( you know dunlap over the belt)  It is sure alot smaller than it was so I am okay with it.  Well my wife had a revision one week after me and she has lost 45 lbs.  We are within 10 lbs of eachother so she told me it was on she was going to stay lighter than me.  I am looking forward to one day being able to carry my bride of 18 years over the threshold.  I don't care if she is lighter as long as we both are healthy for eachother and our 3 boys.

My story

Aug 14, 2009

I was always challenged with weight even as a kid.  I would get real skinny and then balloon up.  From age 16 to 22 I stayed pretty skinny due to sports and school.  I met a wonderful woman we got married and in the first year of marriage I ballooned up to over 240 from 178.  I went for test and was told nothing was wrong.  We have 3 boys 16, 12, and 6.  I always have had gerd but had to have surgery in 2001 and lost 60 lbs and kept it off for 2yrs.  Once I could eat again the weight came right back and then some.  I have been on many diets and would lose just a few pounds even did 6 months with personal trainer and would tone up just no drastic weight loss.  I went to my doctor and he ran some test and said nothing was wrong to keep me from losing weight  and suggested that I check into WLS.  My gerd surgery only lasted for 8 years before I started having issues with acid again and getting sick if I ate greasy fatty food or spicy.  So I made the decision to go check out if I was a good canidate for WLS.  Went to Dr. Barker and he told me that Lapband was not a good choice for me because of gerd.  He said my BMI was border line until he found out that I had high blood pressure and gerd.  My wife went with me to the first visit to have a fill on her band.  My wife had lap band in 2007 and lost 85 lbs at the visit she was told that her esphagus was inflamed and then her band slipped.  They had to take all of the fluid out of her band for 2 weeks to see if it would go down.  Dr. Barker said it is a common issue with the band and asked her if she thought about RNY since she could still lose about 100 more pounds.  I went through all of the test and found out that I have severe sleep apnea but I am also very much do not like to feel comfined and that is what that stupid machine does to me.  I can usually keep in on for about 1 hour and then I have to take it off.  I have tried about 6 different mask and feel the same.  All the process is complete and got approval first try.  Surgery is scheduled for 9/4/2009.  My wife will be having a revision to bypass on 9/11/09.
