And so it begins...

Jan 15, 2009

Today, well since it is 3AM I suppose I mean yesterday, was my pre-admit testing and office visit.  I am pleased to say that the Anniston, AL Regional Medical Center is quite efficient...said my appointment would take 1-1.5 hours and I was at 1.25 when I walked out of the hospital.  First thing I went for my ultrasound at my surgeon's office and it was pretty quick and easy I was happy to find out that I have a smallish size liver so that it won't be in the way...I was concerned considering I have no torso to speak of so maybe that is why it was small...I am small...at least in some places.  Bad news, at least to me, is that my gallbladder is clear.  I was really hoping that they would go ahead and take it out but since there are no stones and I am not an insulin dependent diabetic they won't...but I asked...several times.  Maybe I can can talk them into a three for one: rearrange my guts, remove my appendix and gallbladder.  In a perfect world.  The blood work, EKG and chest x-ray were uneventful...everybody loves to pee in a cup...right?

After all the poking and prodding was over at the hospital I had just under three hours until my meeting with the surgeon and nutritionist...what to do...shop of course!  I saw a shopping center on the way in with a TJ Maxx...I am so there.  And, I was.  Spent too much money but actually found some super cute decorish stuff.  I got a print and some metal work wall art for my office, a square shaped bowl that was a hand-painted black and white zebra pattern which I will use for a candy dish at work (I will only put chocolate in it so I won't be tempted), a glass canister type jar for my bath salts and a couple of picture frames and a few Christmas presents for this next year (I start and finish early).  I did put back a really cute pair of shoes...I know...I must have been ill.  As soon as I decided to go through this surgery I stopped buying shoes and clothes...clothes because I have too much all ready and I will soon be shrinking and the shoes because my shoe size has already gone down and I know I will probably loose another half size when I am the new and improved small edition.  But I must say they were wicked cute...little brown suede ballet flats with a gold bauble...and only $34.99.  I am still thinking about them.

Once I was done blowing over $100 I decided I needed to eat and review my paperwork to make sure I got all my questions on paper.  I used my nifty little GPS in my phone and found a Firehouse Subs...bread...I love bread.  So, turkey sub with bacon and a little flirting from the guy making it.  He called me "beautiful" that was cute...he was like 19 and maybe a little off in the head...I had frizzy hair, no make-up and my latte had spit up all over my shirt earlier...in the eye of the beholder I suppose.  Also, I found some contradictions in the "owners manual" and added a couple of questions to my list.  Like it said "if you want to pig out do it 5-7 days prior to surgery" I had to clear that one up considering I have been on a soup, salad and sandwich diet all week and I would totally be digging a hot KK donut before the cutting.  No dice...they actually made notes of my questions so they could go back and fix the guide.  They are lucky I didn't get started on the grammar and spelling...we could have been there all day!

I had a flat tire in LaFayette...fortunately I was right by this old timey service station and the guy filled my tire up at no charge.  I checked it again in Opelika and it seemed ok maybe a few psi off...then when I pulled in the garage I had lost about 15 psi...guess I know what I will be doing first thing tomorrow.  The week before Christmas there was this huge pot hole in the road around the corner from my house and it was in just the right spot to where you couldn't see it until you were almost in it...well, I went in it and it was probably the length of my tire...it jarred the car so hard that I thought the tire was going to pop but it didn't. Looks like it might have bent the rim and I am loosing air because I can't get a solid seal. Maybe I can have it straightened out.  I had this happen is high school and ended up having the replace the wheel.  The county fixed the hole pretty quickly but not before I had hit it twice and apparently damage my wheel.  Maybe I should invoice the county for the repairs...lol.

To sum it all up a good day minus the whole tire thing...but at least I made it home...most of that drive is through Nowhereland.

Upward and onward...tomorrow is my last day of real food then I go to clear liquids and then surgery on Monday...woohoo...and holy cow!
