So my story begins when I hit puberty. Ive been over weight since the age of 10. I have been researching and looking into gastric bypass surgery...forever! I finally took the plunge and discussed it with my PCP in November of 2007. I began jumping hoops for my insurance company and for the program I'm in at the University of Michigan Hospital. After six months of meeting my PCP, information meetings, sleep studies, psych. evals, and nutrition appointments my case was finally presented to the "Review Committee". I was denied due to my psychiatric issues and was now required to go 6 more months of meeting with my PCP, start seeing an emotional eating therapist and support group meetings that are sponsored by the program. So I continued as if I didn't have any set backs and then on October 28, 2008 my case was, again, reviewed by the Review board and I was APPROVED!! Thank God!!!!!!
So I set up my pre-op appointments and my nutrition appointments and here I am...just back from my pre op appointment and my surgery is scheduled for 12/1/08! I am now getting nervous and starting to think about all of the foods that I will no longer be able to eat. Just in time for Christmas!
I have no support besides this website. Almost everyone I know is against me having this surgery. I am so blessed to have found this website! The message boards have taught me things that I would never learn from a skinny surgeon. Thank you to you all!
