2.6 years Out.....

Apr 21, 2011

I recently attended yet another appt with the Nutritionist.  I have lost 72% of my excess body weight. She told me the surgical team expectations at this point are about 60 %. She told me I have exceeded expectations....that was great news...even better though is that I do not have to lose anymore weight!!  She did state that should my body wish to drop a few more pounds that is okay but as far as she is concerned, she is very pleased. All of my blood work came back flawlwss.
The best part of all, or perhaps the funniest, was that she recommended I add just a wee bit more fat and sodium to my meal plan.NEVER EVER  had I ever expected to hear that in my lifetime!!
So the journey continues.....
I have been blessed with such an amazing supportive group of friends.....without whom this adventure would have been so lonely.  I am thankful to each one.....

TWO YEARS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oct 02, 2010

In less than 5 days I will be celebrating my 2 year post op (GB) surgery!!  The time has whizzed by and here I am..same on the inside but very different on the outside!!!  I have lost a total of 116 lbs...and have had an abdominoplasty to remove the excess skin on my abdomen..of which there was oodles!!
My Type 2 insulin dependent diabetes has been reversed, my severe Sleep apnea is totally gone(The Dr closed the file), my blood pressure is better than normal, always and I am just about off an anti anxiety med that I have been on for 9 years..I have had to do that in increments.  Healthwise I have more than exceeded meeting my goals....I still continue to lose a little..however my body weight seems to be plateuing and I am just fine with that.  It is pure pleasure for me to be able to buy clothes off the regular size racks..never ever thought I would see that day agan!!  It has been quite the journey and it is one I am so very very grateful to have been able to take.....The real task will be to maintain this for the long haul. It has taken two years to get into the 'swing " of this new lifestyle. Temptations still lurk out there and there are times it is as though I am greiving
what once was!!  Sounds loopy I am sure but obesity was a big part(no pun intended!)  of my life for many many years.....Now I can really and truly dance and   it does not leave me breathless!!!

SLOWLY BUT SURELY....

Dec 31, 2008

It has nearly been three months since my RNY.....it has been a huge learning curve with much more to learn in the coming months... I have finally hit the 50 lb +  losing range...I only weigh once every two weeks...that was the best advice I have been given so far...it takes the pressure off..
I no longer have to wear the 1,2 ,3 or 4X size clothing that I have for so many years..what a delight....Now just a normal L to XL...16-18...that is just amazing for me!
Christmas was fun...I was even able to enjoy a little of the stuffing...Thanskgivng I was home alone, walking and sipping and crying!   Hard to believe that three months have  gone by already...I am looking forward to the many more WOW moments coming to me this next New Year.....
I wish you Health and Peace for 2009!  HAPPY NEW YEAR
Merrie

Two Months Out and Counting!!!!( Dec 3,/08)

Dec 03, 2008

It has been two months since my RNY.  I was in the hospital for six days, having spent two of those days in the ICU....I am doing well now and do not regret having had the surgery. I am seeing results physically and mentally!!     I have lost  40 pounds and am off the three insulin injections a day I have had to take for over 9 years..That was my primary goal.
It is a daily foray into the nutrioinal world..learning what I can and
cannot tolerate. I have had the "dumping" torture three times...totally innocent but nasty just the same!
I can nearly sing the national Anthem with burps!Since I eat so little now, I am a cheap date...
My husband is happy about that as he just retired!!
I carry on, day by day and am thankful I live in a country where access to this kind of medicine is available...
Merry Christmas to all!

...Just Wondering.....

Sep 09, 2008

..I am sitting here tonight reading  my friends post's.....I am so glad for them that they  are making such a radical change for the sake of their health...then I reflect on my own decison.  I am proud of me too!!!
There is a lot I don't know and need to learn but I take it one day at a time and know that everything that happens in the next few months will be a learning experience...I would like to know though, what someone's immediate post-op time was like and the 48 hours following...I am just curious...
Good Night Friends....

My Life in a Nutshell

Sep 07, 2008

.. I am 53 years of age. I have been married to the same man for 32....I think I shall keep him!!
I am the mother of three boys..all adopted. The first two came as babies..they are bio-brothers, two years apart. The oldest is now 23 and works on the Oil Fields in Alberta, Canada, and the middle is 21 and living in Toronto Canada..he is best described as "finding his own way"....The youngest is nearly 12. He came to us at 3 days of age as a preemie and we fostered him for 3 years then adoption took place.
I am a Registered Nurse and have worked in the field for 33 years.
Presently I work at a Child Protection Agency in a Family Access Programme..Love the job!No plans for retirement for some time yet!
My husband is retiring from General Motors after 35 years ....He was a student when he started there!!!  he plans to find another job to keep active.....and because the youngest plays hockey and basketball!!
My parents live with us and that in itself has it's own story!
I have a black lab named Missy ...a real sweetie!, two cats..and seven fish and two hermit crabs....I love to read, esp. historical romances and forensic mysteries. I enjoy going out with friends to a movie and for tea...I am also in the process of writing a humourous autobiography...I have quite  a lot ot share and hope to encourage others who have been through many difficult times particularily  with raising Special Needs kids...I am an encourager and a motivator and it brings me much joy to share my life with others....and in doing that, to inspire and hopefully bring some smiles.....
That is about all.....I am sure by Novemvber I will have much more to share!!!
