Surgery is a Success!

Dec 29, 2007

First, I'd like to thank God for bringing me through surgery.

Secondly, I'd like to give a special thanks to my angel Gael for reporting back about my progress.  Finally, I'd like to thank all of you for your well wishes, prayers, thoughts and encouragement leading up to the surgery.  You all just don't know how valuable the lessons you all have taught me.  It doesn't matter if you just recently had surgery or you've been sleeved for a while, I've learned quite a bit from your experiences.  Now, I'd like to share mine:

My routine surgery turned into a more complicated procedure because of iron deficiency issues.  I was transfused with some iron source, not blood, before surgery and during my stay.  Dr. Jossart ordered blood be drawn every 6 hours for the first 48 hours after surgery.

I was supposed to come home on Saturday, Dec. 22 but because I couldn't keep anything in my system, I wasn't released until Sunday, Dec. 23.  I've been at my mom's house this past week so that she could babysit me over the holidays.  She and my DD, Babybrat, did a pretty good job.  I'm at home trying to get back to a normal routine.  I feel great.  I've been sipping, walking and resting and since leaving the hospital on Sunday, I've lost 11lbs.  I love my VSG.  I've been able to get my protein in, but am struggling with getting in all of the fluids.  I'm following doctor's orders but allowed the smell of a bbq meatball to get the best of me.  It tasted so good, BUT I paid for it.  Back to warm liquids for me.  I can't keep down cold things yet, which is unfortunate since I love "green" jello.  Oh well.  That's it for now.  I'll keep posting but now as a post-op.

I love my sleeve and love you guys!

It is official.  I received final approval for the surgery today.  I already had a date and my DD, Ashley goes in for the sleeve today!  I am soooo excited for her and happy for me!  I can't wait until I can begin my life after surgery!  God is good and has been really good to me!  Once I have the surgery, I will post more often if for no other reason than to encourage others to stay positive.  Hey, I can even encourage myself!  God Bless You All and keep my baby in your prayers. Her profile name is Babybrat!  We're in this thing together!

Surgeon's Consultation!

Oct 24, 2007

So, on October 24th, 2007, my mom accompanied me to meet with Dr. J.  We spoke about the surgery.  I already knew what needed to be done because I accompanied my daughter to the same surgeon a month ago.  I spoke with the dietitician and the surgical coordinator.  My date needed to be changed from 12/17/07 to 12/20/07 because of a scheduling conflict with Dr. J.  That's okay.  Just as long as I have surgery before my Pacificare pumpkin runs out.  My company will no longer carry Pacificare so effective Jan. 1, 2008 I have to switch and my marvelous surgeon is not a contracted surgeon with the new insurer, Healthnet.

I received my official pre-op/post-op surgery documents and my own list of labs to complete for surgery.  I'm so excited.  The only bad thing that happened today is Dr. J. heard what he thought was a heart murmur.  I will be 42 years old 11/10/07 and I've never been diagnosed with heart problems.  My daughter has a murmur as does my mom and  my grandson but no one has ever heard one on me.  Anyway, he added a cardiology stress test to make sure my heart won't explode while on the table.  I pray there is nothing wrong.  I hope it's just the wheezing brought on by all of the junk in the air.  The Santa Ana winds are beginning to blow smoke from the So. California fires north.  The air should clear in a few days.  I'm going to take this test first so that if anything can be done it can be done sooner than later.  Keep me in your prayers.  I've come too far to be denied now.

The final threshhold to cross is to submit my psych evaluation to Marilyn, my surgeon's billing/insurance  guru, for final approval for the surgery.  This should be no problem.  Here's to a clean bill of health.  Until next time.

Great Day!

My daughter's final approval for surgery came in today and she is scheduled for November 14th.  Keep my baby in your prayers.  Her profile username is babybrat.  My surgery date is tentivily(sp? brain fart or excitement can't spell either way) scheduled for December 17th.  I just have to have my official consult with Dr. J.  My approval should come in week of October 29.  I've completed everything except the consult with the surgeon.  Wooohooo.  It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood!

Well, I just had my psych evaluation this evening, the final step for surgery approval.  I have my first official consultation with my surgeon on Oct. 24th.  My daughter & I are using the same surgeon so I already know the routine.  Right now, my DD Ashley has completed all pre-op testing, HealthyRoads ( a 6 month dietary/nutrition requirement for Pacificare) and her psych eval.  Once Marilyn, our fantabulous Insurance Specialist GURU gets the psych eval report, she'll submit all necessary paperwork to Pacificare for final approval for surgery.  Ashley should have a date for sometime in early to mid November 07.  Whoopee.  I have already had my psych eval and by the time I see the surgeon for my own surgery, Marilyn will be able to submit my paperwork to Pacificare for my final approval.  My surgery will probably be scheduled in mid to late December.  I'm sooo excited.  I'm a little anxious too.  I've been agonizing over the question of how to handle the attention, wanted and unwanted, that I know I'll receive post-op.I've gotten some great answers from newfound cyber friends.  Signing off for now.
