Low BMI with disability

Feb 27, 2016

*UPDATE - my surgery was put off twice as they tried various physical rehab programmes sadly with no luck. I also lost my job due to my disability.

I'm now at 100kg (220 pounds) with 35 bmi & am finally 10 days out from my surgery date 3 Oct. I will be coming to the forum for support - I'm finding the pre op diet is super hard so any support or suggestions gratefully received. Good luck and best wishes to you all*

Hi all

My questions for any low bmi-ers that had gastric sleeve are:

How much energy & prep will I need in order to manage my day to day life post surgery?

How long until you can do light exercise to stop slackened skin / go back to work (I'm at a desk job)?

What can I expect from the process?

Is there anything you experienced that you can share?

Heres my story for context...After an accident my weight has steadily increased and I struggle as I used to be very active. I eat fairly well but realise now that without the ability to exercise to burn it off and the ease of large quantities of eating when bored,  (literally i am only able to do anything but gentle Waterwalking or physical therapy) i know I have to do something to help myself before it spirals out of control.

So please no hate, I'm low bmi 31 but if I had my old life back this would not be something I would consider... it is something that may help me to move more freely & my surgeon has suggested it has helped others with similar injuries. We are having to pay for this ourselves as we have the other option of back surgery <50% success & 12 weeks off work not moving. Hence i would prefer to try this first.

I really appreciate any thoughts or feedback.

C
