7/13/07--So far it has been more emotional and procrastinating. I have been researching lap band surgery for about a year now after talking with someone about weightloss. I knew about the gastric bypass but had only heard about lap band recently when someone I knew was going to have their  surgery that has since been postponed.

I attended four different seminars and then attended one that really got my attention. However still had my reservations. I attended the seminar a second time. I got to talk with both surgeons at that time and the executive director of the surgical center.

After all of this I have found most surgeons to be very technical and not completely people people. However, as I move closer into the process I have found everyone including the surgeons to be very nice, caring people. They have been receptive to my concerns and fears about the whole process.

After having past heart issues, my family doctor and heart specialists have cleared me to follow through on this surgery as they feel it will be the best thing. They are predicting without the extra weight alot of the health issues I have been encountering (heart palpitations, aching joints knees, hips, and ankles) should diminish as my body won't be carrying around all the extra weight I have.

I have been gathering all the information necessary for my insurance company to be able to get the approval to take the next steps. I have been told my insurance company will cover 80% after a $1400 deductible leaving my portion of the bill including the deductible to be between $5-6K. That is not a huge amount however it will hamper the budget a bit. I am waiting on the insurance company after I submit my weight history information to them to give me the go ahead or more hoops to jump through. It's a wait and see game from here.
