I've been heavy all my life since I had my tonsils out at age 7.I've been on numerous diets through the years and never able to maintain the wt.loss. Even Modified Fast diets 3 times I was sucessful but regained after I was put on food. With having a heart problem ,reflux  and osteoarthritis my life was becoming limited. I had the lapband in Jan.08. I never lost any wt. no matter what I did my wt. stayed within 5#. Then I was told I needed total knee replacement of both knees this year. I was then diagnoised with Lymphedema a fluid retension condition which explained the lack of wt.loss.  To relieve my pain and pressure on my body I decided it was time for RNY.I had RNY in Nov.09. Now 1 yr. later I am amazed at the transformation like a flower opening its bloom to full radiance. I no longer take blood pressure medicine . My lymphedema and body pain are under control and wounds on my legs  are much better. My osteoarthritis and knees are much better and I am able to be more active.. I was able to get in and out of buses and trains and up and down stairs much  more easily when my grandchildren came to visit. I actually had more energy than them at some points.  I now have alot of fun fashion shopping in the resale stores and playing dress up. Something I had never done before always had to just get clothes that fit.  I am looking forward to what new experiences are in store. It has not been a smooth journey by no means. I had trouble with muscle pain That was caused by taking the wrong kind of Magnesium and reactive hypoglycemia but those have been resolved by keeping a close eye on the advice on the board to correct the problems. If I had to do it again I would definitiely do the RNY and regret I did not do it 3 yr.s ago. I was scared but it has all worked out just fine. I have kept up with my vitamins much before my surgery I started and have only lost a few strands of hair and my skin has stayed pink and less dry than many of my friends. Hydration and vitamins are definitely important but not unmamageable. If you can pop a piece of candy you can take your chewable vitamins throughout the day.
