8+ months post-op

Apr 19, 2014

Well, I am over 8 months post-op and went back to read some blogs and noticed that I hadn't done one since 3 weeks post-op.  Wow!  So...I'm at 165 lbs (a 115 lb. weight loss since pre-op diet).  Wow, again!  I have bought clothes that read size 8 but typically fit best in size 10 in pants and Large/xL in blouses.  I definitely get in all my supplements/vitamins/fluids/protein needs.  Last lab (almost 3 months ago) was good on everything except I have had to add an Iron supplement due to some concerns with that.  I am planning to get another lab done in about a month to see if the Iron is better and everything else is still just as well.  I have changed my goal weight to 138 from 153...mainly due to an intuitive flash more than anything else.  My body seemed to be telling me where it wanted to be although I think 145 at the least would be just as well...but I will let it do as it pleases up to 138 (and no less).  As far as loose skin...yeah...definitely some loose skin...not as bad as I have seen on some others and I do wonder about bathing suit needs as my inner thighs look not so great!  My arms are also loose  under the arms mainly and my breasts too.  Just kinda weird more than disturbing.  Once I get to a settled weight I am focusing on weight training and body sculpting needs.  I have bought a bicycle for my cardio and am starting out slow but steady and anticipate the pool to go up within a month to get in some cardio there too.  Yoga is out due to a torn ligament in my right shoulder and I'm scared of aggravating it.  Since my feet are bad, I don't want to do much jogging although I would love to do it again!  Maybe one day I can start out really slow and work with my feet to accept some aggravation.  I really miss jogging and yoga but...I have to take care of my body...it's the only one I have!  As far as my diet and eating habits....I try to stay around 800 calories and 70 grams of protein.  I have had a shot of a butter nipple and sipped a couple of beers.  The beers I can not tolerate too much although the hard liquor is pretty good.  It's nothing that triggers me.  Although, I have to buckle down and get back to basics as I do have cravings at that TOM and want to eat more.  That could make me spin out of control the further away from surgery I get.  Also, I have to get back to the mindfulness of eating way too fast.  Salmon makes me full fast and I love it.  I do one shake a day.  I have caffeine in the morning now but remain with decaf when I drink tea and any extra coffee. I am feeling pretty good (not as weak as I was when I was only getting 600 calories).  I notice that I can't laugh, cough, or talk as fast without extra breaths...not sure if that is lung capacity and needing extra cardio or stomach muscles needing targeting or anatomical considerations...TBD.  Overall, this has all been a success and so well worth it!  I am so happy.  The major 1 Goal I have for this surgery is to rid myself of the Sleep Apnea if it's only just the weight factor (which it should be).  I will test by the beginning of August so I can report to my surgeon that I am sleep apnea free when I see him in August.  :)

3 weeks post-op

Aug 25, 2013

So, I still can't see what I am actually typing so hoping this will be mostly correct.  I am feeling more like my self here lately.  I did my first week back at work last week and it went fairly well.  Just being mindful to not lift, push, pull on things.  I have been getting in my protein and fluids and viatmins as required.  I go to 4 tbsp. of soft pureed tomorrow so plan on doing some peanut butter and triscuits (low fat) and egg salad and some cheese (shredded, low fat).  I am excited about all that.  I do my one mik protein shake every morning after some oatmeal and do my protein powder that taste like fruit juice in the afternoon and then 8 oz. of skim milk in the evening.  I have been doing my B-12 and calcium citrate in the evenings.  I see my surgeon on Wed. for my post-op appt.  Hope to get a good result from that.  I have lost 30 lbs since starting the pre-op diet although my ticker says a little less.  Will update more later.

Update 6 days post-op

Aug 10, 2013

I have finished surgery and are 6 days post-op.  I hve lost over 6 lbs. since surgery.  i am trying to get all my liquids in and protein and taking my daily vitamin and medicine.  It is hard for me at this point to get all my fluids and protein in...I'm about 10g short and 20 oz. short but that should change on Monday when I can fit more fluid in.  I am not in any real pain although some discomfort at times.  I feel pretty good and my energy level is decent but still taking my time and resting in order to heal.  Overall, II'm staying focused on healing and doing well.  I do thinkk about certain foods but overall I dont have hunger.

Counting Down

Jul 30, 2013

Well...about 6 days until surgery.  Still doing my full liquid diet.  Some days are better than others with the hunger pain and needing something to chew.  But it is worth it.  I will do everything possible to follow the regiment for the most successful outcome for the Gastric Sleeve.  I am going to use my OCD nature to it's fulles, most productive abilities.  I think my blood sugar got low this morning and I needed to eat some yogurt so I did.  I felt better after some yogurt.  Looking forward to the surgery.

Pre-Surgery Full Liquid (One week in)

Jul 28, 2013

So, I can't see what I am writingI but going to post anyway.  I have done 7 full days of the Full Liquid Diet for my upcoming Sleeve surgery.  I have to say that it has been an ok experience.  the 3rd night was the hardest.  I was hungry, hungry, and hungry.  I was able toplow through though.  I have lost 12 lbs though.  Although when I put in my original weight it wasn't entirely accurate as I wweighed myself and the scale did say 280 due to normal weight fluctuations in the day.  I have also lost a bit of inches too.  And I havenot cheated once.  I get my proteinshakes in and eat creamed soups and some yogurt and pudding (all sugar free and low fat of course).  I have been tired but have started the multi viatmin daily.  i do the Wii and stay active as much as possible.  I even do my swimming exercises as I have a pool.  But I am more focused on just sticking with no food than exercsise at this point.  Anyway, I have one more week before surgery and I need to go do a shake right now...so, I'm off to go d that.  Hopefully there are not to many mistakes in hte writing of this. am trying to see if this works.  Even though I can't see what I am writing.
