Hi Ya'll! I'm Amber. Im 22 years old. Married to my hubby Richard. We have a son named Ryan, who just turned 1 year old on February 25,2008!

I have never been anything but a big girl. I dont even know what it would be like to be at a normal weight and wear a normal size. I have always bought plus size clothes. Even when I was younger, I bought clothes through JcPenny catalogue because they had the plus sizes for little girls. Throughout high school my weight went betwieen 230-270, gainging more and more every year. By the time I got married at the age of 20 I weighed 280 and was wearing a size 24. Four days after I got married we found out I was pregnant. I had a normal pregnancy and only gained 20 lbs. When I delivered my son I weighed in at exactly 300 lbs. By my 6 week check up I had lost weight and was down to 274. I was really active and my husband and my family and I were always out running around doing things and walking. 2 months after having my son My husband and I moved to Phoenix in April 2007. After getting there I got very depressed. I didnt want to leave the house because it was too hott and it got to the point where I was only leaving my house maybe 2-3 times a month! I wasnt excercising anymore and my hubby and I were eating out alot. I ended up gaining weight. By the time we decided to move back to New Mexico I weighed 327 lbs. My family and friends didnt even recongized me when I got back. I used to be such a girly girl who always wore cute clothes and had my hair done and wouldnt leave the house without makeup on. Now I lounge around in my pjs all day long, I dont do my hair, and I wear makeup maybe twice a month. I dont wear jeans anymore because I cant find anything I like that even fits so I just gave up. I fiqured im a mom now and this is ok to look like this, I dont have the time to look cute anymore.

This is when I realized I needed to do something. The week I moved back, my parents and I went to a weight loss surgery seminar. I had already tried back in 2004 to have the surgery but my Dr. wanted me to do a 6 month program with weight watchers. I ended up losing 5 lbs. I got a new Dr. and things got in the way and having the surgery went to the back burner. We meet with Del Sol Bariatrics back in December 2007, and did all of the requirements they needed. When I submitted to the insurance in April they told me that my thyroid levels were extreme and that I needed to control it before they would approve me. Now its finally June and my thyroid is in normal range and everything is good. Both of my parents are having the surgery as well. My mom just had her surgery on May 13th and my dad and I are hopig to be able to do it together. Im glad we decided to do this as a family and im glad we will all have such a great support system! Im ready to use this tool to start not a new life but a better life for myself and my family!
