Quoc Huynh

"Dr Huynh was very professional and matter of fact during the first visit. All information was presented by him with diagrams and a careful description of the surgery. He mentioned that he liked it when a patient was proactive in their own health care and encouraged me (and others) to use the internet and any other sources of info to gain more knowledge of the surgery we are undertaking. On my second visit I came prepared with more questions and in the process said something off hand that amused him, making him smile. After that he seemed to relax and I felt more comfortable about asking any questions that were on my mind. I guess it made him more personable and that made me more comfortable. By the day of surgery I was very pleased with the rapport we had achiev. I was quite pleased with the office staff of this group of surgeons. They were professional and caring, relatively prompt returning phone calls and forthcoming with information. Considering the number of patients that go through that office in a day, I would have to say I admire their ability to maintain their cheerfulness. I cannot think of anything negative to say about Dr Huynh or the office staff. My experience with them has been all positive. There is a dietician and a therapist that must be seen pre surgery as part of the program with this bariatric centre. However, they need more staff. I think it could be beneficial if they could offer or at least encourage patients considering this surgery and who have not already done so, to have much more intensive psychotherapy than what seems to be available through this bariatric program. Perhaps they could refer patients or suggest they ask their own GP to refer them to a therapist who specializes in eating disorders. I truly believe this would benefit the patient greatly both pre and post op, since the issues with food do not stop once the surgery is done. Post care seems to be an area that needs beefing up. The dietician does a check up and notifies you if there is adjustment needed in your vitamins etc. and the therapist is there if you call and say you have a problem. I just feel that it needs more refinement and more accessibility. I have talked to the dietician about how helpful I would have found a recipe book for post surgery or at the very least a few suggestions of how to make eating more interesting. Overall I would rate this surgeon and his bariatric centre as almost excellent - but then I have nothing to compare it to. I feel that surgical competence is most important but that bedside manner is also a major factor in helping a patient have a positive attitude and therefore a positive outcome of any procedure. Having said that I would also point out that I believe their must also be personal responsibility. The patient's overall attitude, mental state of preparedness for surgery and how you address and respond to your surgeon will help to put your surgeon at ease and perhaps make you more memorable to him/her. After all, they see so many patients and we see the them so little pre and post op that if you become a personality and not just a patient I think it helps to bring out the best in your relationship with your surgeon. I can only say that I AM VERY PLEASED WITH DR HUYNH, HIS OFFICE STAFF, P.S I Copyed This off of another person who has the same dotor I COULD NOT FIND ANY BETER WORDS THEN THIS PERSON,,,THANK YOU"
