I have been overweight to obese as long as I can remember. I come from a family that is genetically predisposed to a struggle with obesity. I reached by heaviest weight of 249.8 pounds following the death of my mother. She had spent the last 6 months of her life in the hospital fighting a body that had been ravaged by the effects of obesity. After seeing her struggle and the time we lost with her before and after she passed due to her obesity, I decided that I could not do that to myself or my family.
I was banded 1/28/2011. I had done fairly well with the band, until March 2012. After 5 days of inability to keep anything down, it was confirmed that my band had slippped and needed to be removed immediately.
I am now having a VSG on 5/30/2012.
The struggle is not over, but these surgeries have given me the tool to make it easier.
