I've been in the hotel for two days, now. It's kind of boring but I do need to rest. Often I turn on the TV to have noise. There are several English with Portuguese subtitled movies on. I do get quite a variety of movie channels like HBO.
I'm not terribly uncomfortable. The incision stings especially if I sneeze or cough. Not fun. I got so tired of showing my belly to so many people that last night I told my doctor I promised to show him mine if he first showed me his hair and all!
I'm glad I brought a used Portuguese dictionary. I've met a 28 year old Brazilian woman here with her mother. She had surgery the same day as me. She speaks some English and with the dictionary and the little bit of Spanish I know we understand each other. Some words are the same Spanish/ Portuguese but the pronunciation is different. When I use the dictionary I have a Spanish accent. Imagine that!
I'm in a very big city (over 2 million). It looks very much like down town SA. Mostly stucco some brightly colored, and red tiled roofs. There is constant traffic right out side my window day and night.
I've met all sorts of people. Most are leaving soon so they have showered me with food. I have a small'dorm'fridge and it's stocked with jello, yogurt, and things. My Brazilian friend, Gizzellie (pronounce the G as the French would) brings me home made soup from her mother. I went to their room yesterday and her mother had on cleaning gloves and was scrubbing the place down! They brought dish towels and all. We do have a few dishes and a two burner stove, microwave. There's a North American box that's available to any American/Canadian. It has a blender and coffee maker. I haven't seen the box so not sure what all but I do have the blender and coffee maker
I want to thank all of you for posting your words of encouragement. It was very hard to leave behind all I know and come here alone.
To Sharon Rodriguez(hope I got that right) all you need to do to be a SADS 'member' is show up. How hard can that be? I'd love to meet you. Our next 'meeting/lunch' is Oct.17th, Salt Grass-I 10 and Huebner some where around there @11:00. Please try to come. Any other SA area Dsers are welcome.
