Kaiser Permanente

"I had the best surgeon in the state of CA but this hospital was the worse medical experience I've had in my entire life. The nurses were slow to respond to my needs. They were cold and generally unfriendly. There were times that my sutures or drains were leaking and I sat in my own blood for hours. I was forced to share a room with a patient who'd had bariatric surgery weeks before and was throwing up 80 percent of the day and night. I spent my first night with her in a medically induced haze and then on my second night at 1 am I demanded that I be moved. I was recovering well and having such a sick patient who was keeping me awake at all hours wasn't good for me. I was met with resistance but my room was changed. In my new room, my television didn't work and getting it fixed proved impossible. I tried to explain that having a TV to zone out with and just relax was imperative to my recovery but the nurses felt it was superfluous and not related to my well-being. The maintenance staff admittedly did not know how to fix the television. When I needed to walk (as bariatric patients need to do frequently) I was unassisted in my attempts to get out of bed and unplug my IV fluids machine. Then when I did walk, I found patients crying and moaning in their rooms, doors wide open, and wet pools of liquid on the ground. I was told to pee into a "hat" that was placed below the toilet seat--but this "hat" was never changed and so I ended up peeing all over myself multiple times. I would do just about ANYTHING to keep myself out of that hospital. "
