Wow! Three Years Have Gone By
Dec 11, 2010
I shouldn't be surprised...I'm reminded every day that I am smaller, lighter, active, energetic and have a head of hair again. I go to support group meetings every month. They help me stay on track and I revel in seeing so many brave people ready to take the bariatric plunge. All ages - some even older than me! My doctor calls me his "poster child" for weight loss. I had to convince him at the outset that Bariatric surgery would be a good thing for me and that I would never let myself gain it back. Well....never is a long time - but I'm working hard to see that that never happens. My body seems to know when I've had enough to eat. It lets me know by having a full feeling and it says "one more bite and you'll have the food revisit you".When asked what restaurant I would like to go to, my reply is "I eat so little so don't plan around me". I do much better with food that is not spicy, not dense, and certainly not dry. I do not drink and eat at the same time. Putting cut up meats or fish in salads, works well for me. I drink crystal light in water everyday and take a multivitamin and calcium as well (I like the Celebrate brand - chewables) I have gained back 5 lbs which is a little scary - but I watch it everyday and have promised myself not to let it go beyond that. I no longer have any co-morbitities - (sleep apnea, pre-diabetes and high blood pressure). The bottom line is: I wish I had done this ten to twenty years sooner. Life is good.
