I am 32 years old and have struggled with my weight ever since I can remember.  I have tried every diet imaginable with no success.  I have friends that have had WLS but never really gave it much thought until 2006.  I began researching the procedure and different clinics.  I scheduled a consultation at Barix Clinics in June of 2006 and met with Dr. Poplawski.  I knew once I met him and he explained the procedure that this is what I needed.  At my consultation I weighed in at 253 pounds.  This is my highest weight ever and I remember being so upset on the drive home to have actually seen those numbers on the scale.  I decided to move forward with my psych eval and recieved 100% support from my primary care physician to move forward with the surgery.  I received an immediate approval from my insurance company and surgery was scheduled for 9-6-06.

The moring of surgery I woke up at 4a.m. in order to be ready and at the clinic at 6a.m.  I was very nervous and a few times thought about just not showing up.  I arrived at the clinic and was met by the very friendly staff and was quickly escorted to the presurgical area where I weighed in at 245 and was prepped for my surgery.  The next thing I remember was waking up from surgery and having my mom and my husband standing at the foot of my bed.  I have to say the pain was very minimal and except for the fact I had a swollen stoma the hospital stay was very uneventful. I was released 3 days after surgery.

When i got home that is when the fun began.  I went through the whole mouring food and crying for no reason.  I remember feeling that taking a drink of water should not be that difficult though it seemed as if I needed a degree to know what I was doing.  All I did for 2 weeks was sit around and watch FOOD NETWORK.  I told my husband if I cannot eat it I can at least watch it.  I do not advise this(LOL).

At my 2 week check up I weighed in at 225.  I was exstatic and finally realized that everything was worth it. I am now 3 years out from surgery and feel better than I ever thought I could.  I have went back to college and am almost finished with my nursing degree. My goal is to work at the Bariatric Clinic that did my surgery, in order to show patients there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
