I was always the fat kid. The photographer at school use to stand me in the back with the boys.  I dreaded gym class.  40 years ago we use to have to wear these one piece blue bloomers.  I would force myself into these in the morning and not go to the bathroom all day.  Eventually they allowed us to wear shorts like the boys (right about the same time that the girls could wear pants).  Then along came the Canadian Fitness Awards.  Remember those?  We were tested in various activities, all of which I could not do.  I can remember being the only one in the class who never got the round patch award, in gold, silver, or bronze.
Moving to high school was not better.  Gym was and still is mandatory.  This a great thing if you are capable to doing the requirements.  Health class saved me from failing the entire course.  I can remember having to run the 1/4 mile track 4 times.  I could never quite finish (walking it) before the end of class.

Through all this my mom took me to Diet work shop, Weight watcher, TOPS, and an acuputurist.  I managed to loose and regain each time.  I lose 100 lbs in high school doing the Atkins diet.  Of course it all came back.  Next came weight wtchers (several times).  I lost around 80 lbs.  Back it came.

Then I got married had two great kids.  An the weight continued to climb.Next was the worst stage of my life.  I got divorced.  Turns out my then husband was seeing my then, much thinner, best friend on the side.   Good excuse to eat myself into more problems.

Well I'm happy to report, I met and married my current husband 8 years ago.  I've managed to maintain about 260, give or take a few, but can never get much off.  I am only 5'3".   We have both tried Atkins, xenical, low car, carful carb, calorie counting, etc.  I could right a book on food values.  I suppose most overweight people can.  My husband is overwieght, but not large enough to require such drastic measures as WLS.

I began researching WLS about 2 years ago.  when I brought it up with my husband he was very encouraging.  I ask my family doctor about it.  He did not have any knowledge of WLS but was willing to read whatever I could bring to him and give my a referral if I could find a doctor. There's where I ran into a stumbling block.  Thank god for this site.  I got Dr. Starrs name.  I saw him in January of 2008, and finally going to get this monkey off my back in October.
I can't wait.
