So far...my experience

Feb 13, 2009

About my experience so far!  Well, I was too concerned with loosing the weight and looking good, that I DIDN'T ask what is going to happend after surgery. All of the bad things??...To start off with I am aprox 2 weeks post op I had laproscopic gastric bypass. I am 26yrs old and peaked at my highest weight of 240 right before the surgery. I was miserable too and desperate for a fix now!
I had my surgery on 1-27-09 and woke up in the most pain I had ever felt! Worse than my c-cection with my son. The nurse was kinda a bitch and just said use your pain pump, thats what it's for! I was like WOW...ok....lol Basically feels like you have been beatin with a baseball bat. I had very lil brusing but was in sooo much pain! I had the drain for about 1 day and then they removed that. I wasn't really dripping that much, so they removed my drain fairly soon. It just looked gross. They did make me walk around later that day to get me going and to prevent blood clots. Thank God for that, bc walking does help!!!  I walked and walked for the 2 days I was there!
I used my morphine pump like an addict!!! lol I kid you not. Nothing to suck on or drink the first day....but ice chips on day 2! I was drooling for icechips...lol But b4 I was "ok'ed" to have my ice chips I had to go have my test done to make sure my new pouch didn't leak. After I drank a few sips of the horrible barrium fluid I was all good to go back to my room and have my ice chips..lol There will be A LOT of pain on your left side people! That is the side where the stapler is inserted and the side where they did all the work. After surgery I had bad gas pains...but that is completly normal....I was only in the hospital 2 days total and then I was given the ok to go home :) I was really regretting the surgery the first few days after. I could barley keep a sip of water down. Cold water hurt to go down. I was literally sipping on room temperture fluids. I couldn't stand another soup broth, I was about to kill someone, yet I wasn't hungry. I didn't want anything! Just the head hunger of everything around you that you can't have..lol, that drove me crazy. I was soo upset that I decided to have this aweful surgery....thats how I felt. I was nausaus, dizzy and in pain for days. Also the biggest kick was I kept weighing myself like an idiot and I actually gained 3lbs. I was pist...lol I didn't actually loose weight till like the 5th day and it was like 7lbs or something crazy I was soo excited!
Just when I started to feel better and was able to eat some baby food and yougurt by like the 4th or 5th day I started having horrible pain on my left side again. Like right after the surgery. My surgen feared it may be a hernia so I had to come on in to his office which is 2hrs away for me. I could feel a small lump under my farthest left incision, but again to diaganose a hernia over the phone is hard...lol It turned out to be nothing....just the muscle healing. He pushed down on it soo damn hard I wanted to cry...lol But I did feel better after seeing him!
So I was ok and down about 17lbs almost 2 weeks post-op. Then I was fine for a few days...then again with the left side pain!!! I was like WTF NOW???!!!! I was told maybe gas pain yada yada....No again it is the muscle healing. But this time the pain was a lil lower than my incision so I was confused on what it may be. I was assured that it was my muscle healing and that can take up to 6weeks!!! So everyday the pain is a lil less, but for the last 4 days it has been a burning horrible pain that won't let up.
I am almost 2 weeks post-op and can't wait for the pain to stop so I can exercise. I am ready to go but my body isn't....lol I have lost almsot 30lbs so far....just 3 lbs shy of it. Once I start exercising I will feel better. I can barley eat much of anything and I love and hate that fact...lol What if I wanted to drink that whole can of pop and eat 3 pieces of pizza??? I CAN'T!!! NO WAY IN HELL right now...lol I can eat about 1-2 a slice of anything if I am lucky. I have to sip on everything. No more chugging or gulping your drinks. My head has to adjust to these things still. My tummy already did. I am rarley hungry, and when I am it takes damn near NOTHING to fill me. I can't even finish a 6oz yougurt...lol I am lucky that I was able to move to soft solids (basically anything you want) by my 2nd week. I would of died if I had to do puree and liquids for more than a week! I don't eat bread, grease, or sweets now. I don't really have a caving for them. When I ate 1-2 a slice of pizza I basically at the toppings. I can't really handle a lot of bread, makes me uncomfortably full. As for sweets, I'm afaraid of dumping, so I won't go there. I have my slim fast and ensure if I get a sweet tooth. Nothing so far that I have eatin has bothered me though. That may be a bad thing...I can still eat anything...lol. Just not a lot of it. I have a glass of OJ everyday and that goes down just fine. Oranges, apples, peaches, they all are working. I have been eating a lot of chicken, chili, and tuna. I am having a HORRIBLE time with my protein powder. I DON'T DRINK THEM AT ALL. I hate them. I try soo hard to eat enough tuna or eggs...the shakes all suck! I even bought the unflavored power to mix in foods and I don't even do that. I am really bad about that and have to stop! I do take my chewable vitamins everyday though. Those suck to me too...lol Since the surgery I can taste everything like crazy! I can't do artificial or preservatives, I taste all that crap now and I don't like it. Everything is sweet! It slowely gets better though everyday. AGAIN....I just wish someone told me all of this! I knew nothing of the negatives....or what to expect right after surgery. Ooohh we can't forget the bad horrible breath after surgery...lol I brush and brush and rinse and rinse...lol It's my body going through Ketosis. But thats a good thing!
Well this is where I sit right now with my surgery. Everyday gets a lil better and easier. I am adjusting slowley. STILL wanting that pop....lol I had a lil sip of diet here and there but it's really not as good as it used to be. The bubbles make it really unenjoyable and then you feel like you have to burp for about 15min afterwards. So pop is not a good idea, I have to stop with that...lol But I am loosing weight and happy about that! I felt like a slow looser because it was stuck on 217 for like 5 days. I was ready to kill. So I ignored the scale for like 2 days and it finally moved!! lol Don't ya just love that!
