My Story

Mar 15, 2007

I have dealt with obesity most of my life. I was a stick as a child up until the age of 13 and then for some reason I started gaining weight. I look at all my little girl pictures and it amazes me of how I changed overnight.

My lowest weight in jr high school was 174lbs and I thought that was huge, who would have thunk it! Anyway, I have been on every diet known unto man, if it's been on the market or not, I have tried it. Through all my failed attempts, I was able to lose a significant amount of weight twice, once at the age of 22 and just before I met my DH which was a little over 11 years ago.

My frist attempt: I went to the doctor for a check-up and weighed 298lbs and I just new the scale was broke. The woman swore that it wasn't and that she checked it daily by her own weight. Well, that sent me into a panic, 2lbs from 300, OH MY GOD! I went on a strick diet and didn't stop until I was 210lbs in a very short time. Well, I ended up sick and had to have my gall bladder & a blowel duct removed and I gained almost all the weight back.

My 2nd attempt: I was 278lb and this was just before I met my hubby to be. By the time I met him, I was 250 even and that gave me the incentive to continue. By the time we were married, I was 224lbs and still not feeling real good about myself but he loved me unconditionally.

So here we are, 7 years into the marriage and I'm struggling to stay under 285lbs without a lot of success. I would work out 6 days a week but I could not get the eating in control. So here I am 39, a few months before turning 40 and over-weight, hating my life and myself, and just so happen to run across a website regarding lapbands. GB was never an option for me because I new to many people who had it and did not succeed with tuns of medical problems.

In less than a month, I decided this was for me and I did as much research as I could, spoke with the man and he OK'd it and I was off to Mexico with my mom for surgery (we had to pay for it ourselves).

My Statistic and Sizes:
Starting Weight: 283lbs; Current Weight: 175lbs; Height: 5'11
Dress/Pants: from a 22 to a 12; Jeans: from a 24T to a 10T

It has not come without a lot of patience and hard work on my part. As I continue to update my blog, I will continue to add some of my past struggles and victories.

For all the newbies I would say continue, even with the disappointments, struggles and fustration cause it will be worth it down the road.
