Pre-Op with Dr. Alfonso Torquati

Oct 14, 2010

I was really nervous to "meet" Dr. Torquati today for pre-op.  I don't know why...just makes it OFFICIAL, I guess.  He was super, duper nice.  He explained everything to me and put a lot of fears at ease.  I only had 2 questions for him though.  #1 What can I do next week (last week before surgery) to make his job easier?  He doesn't have a mandatory liquid diet pre-op.  But, he said if I wanted to I could drink 5 Carnation Breakfast shakes with Skim milk a day as meals and snack replacements.  And drink LOTS of water.  #2 How much weight does he expect me to lose?  He said he will try to get me into ONDERLAND since I am 5'11 and larger framed (grrrr).  I could be very happy with those results.  Soooo....11 more days!

Before pics are added and rambling

Oct 05, 2010

 @ Before pics
I am sooooooo ready to leave the "before pics" in the past.  And I can't wait until I am able to see drastic differences.

I have 19 days until surgery and I getting really nervous.  My aunt just had lap rny on 10/1 and she hasn't done too well.  She's very sick and moaning and groaning with sickness and pain.  She is a very strong lady and to see her go through this is really scary.  I keep telling myself that everyone is different and we have different Surgeons.  But, I'm still nervous none the less.

So close, yet so far away...39 days and COUNTING

Sep 16, 2010

OK, apparently patience isn't one of my virtues.  I am SO tired of waiting on this surgery date to arrive.  I do feel lucky to have been given this enormous gift/opportunity.  But, it feels like I have been waiting forever...bc I have.  I have had to overcome many obstacles and jump through so many hoops and I am tired of waiting.  COME ON OCTOBER 25TH!  AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Tired of being judged....

Sep 13, 2010

Everytime someone hears that I am having weight loss surgery, they automatically assume I am taking the "lazy way out."  They say why don't you try Weight Watchers or Nutri-System, as if I haven't ALREADY exhausted all other options.  I have been able to lose large amounts of weight on my own, just for it to return PLUS more.

For many morbidly obese people, WLS may be the ONLY realistic alternative for achieving a long, healthy life. The newest research provides irrefutable evidence that body weight is largely a function of genes — just like height or a family propensity for cancer. These genes help regulate appetite and metabolism. People prone to obesity seem to gain excessive weight easily, while finding it difficult or impossible to lose it. That's why diets almost always fail and why WLS is currently the only viable weight loss option for many morbidly obese peopleMost people can lose no more than 5-10% off their "natural" body weight by exercising and eating wisely. Decades of diet studies show that more than 90% of people who lose weight by dieting gain it all back within 5 years. "There are exceptions, but when you are speaking of general rules, the only people who are able to lose more than 10 percent of their body weight and keep it off are people who have had gastric-bypass or other bariatric surgery."

So tired of being judged without knowing first hand how it feels.  Try taking a walk in my shoes...if u can.
