Hi All,
My name is Katie and I am starting my WLS journey. I have chosen Newton Wellesley Hospital outside of Boston MA for my surgery because I have heard great things about the facility/surgeons and staff there. I am a single mom of a 9 year old little boy and a full time nursing student. I also work 20-30 hours a week at a local hospital (don't even ask how I do it because I don't know). I have been thinking about WLS for a few years but I had always focused on the cosmetic aspect of it...until the co-morbities began. I have recently been diagnosed with hypertension and have allready (at the age of 27) had irreversible surgery on my bladder for urinary stress incontinence partly caused by my excess weight. I currently cannot stand for long periods of time due to the excess weight my frame is holding and that could hinder my future as an RN. I have decided to make this life altering change for myself and my son. His is going to want his mom around and I do not want to get to the point where I am too sick from being overweight to watch him grow up.
This decision took a long time for me to make and I am ready. I have support from family and friends and hope to make some new ones on here. I want a new, healthy lifestyle and I know that this surgery will help me reach my goals.
