Where is Summer?

Jul 13, 2009

Hey everyone!  Just wanted to check-in, it's been quite a while since I posted.  My honey just left from his R&R last week.  What a great 2 weeks we had.  We stayed busy and put just about 1,000 miles on the Harley!  Every sunny moment there was, we were riding!  I will try to post some pictures here soon.  I hated to see him go.  This time around is hitting me quite hard.  His contract ends 31 Oct 2009 and he signed up for another, yes ANOTHER year through 31 Oct 2010!!  However, looking at the brighter picture, I got my engagement ring this time!!  It took over 5 years, so I am not pushing a ceremony right away.  (Maybe that is why he is staying another year...lol).  I was very happy with that!

I have been able to loose almost 12 pounds since March.  I have about 12 more to go to get to my goal.  I am not pushing it, I am happy where I am and every day I still have wow moments or get compliments or just feel damn good!  When people ask, I tell them I would do it all again in a heartbeat!

Well, hopefully summer will eventually get here.  The high for the next few days are 68 here...ugh!!  Good thing we packed heavier clothes for my son at camp this week...geesh!!

Enjoy the rest of your summer and keep up the great work!

One-year post-op appointment with my surgeon

Feb 18, 2009

Yesterday was my yearly check-up and everything is going well.  Stalling on the weight loss, but my bloodwork all came back just fine.  Getting everything that I need, so all is good there!  I asked him about my stall and he said that I am simply eating too much.  I have to remind myself to do NO snacking (protein bars, few s/f cookies) and to eat 3 small meals a day and walk away from the table after 15 minutes of eating.  Otherwise, we have the tendancy to let our pouch loosen up and we will give ourselves the chance to eat just a little bit more.  I haven't done a whole lot of wrong-doing, but on a slight occasion I might have had a couple sugar free cookies for a snack, etc.  Maybe I can jump-start myself to loose that last 20 lbs before Memorial Day.  That is a temporary goal I am setting for myself.  That is the time my fiance will be home from Iraq on R&R.  If I don't get there, then surely by the end of summer.  The weather will surely guide me to get it done by then, too!  We all know the more we loose, the harder it is to loose those few last pounds...ugh!!

Thanks for checking in on me and I hope everyone is doing well!

Finally...updated some new pics!

Sep 01, 2008

Hey everyone!  Happy Labor Day!! Wow...where did the summer go?  On Wednesday the kids will all be back in school getting use to their new daily schedules!  I just wished my son was looking a wee bit forward to returning to school, but that is wishful thinking!

Weight loss is pretty level again.  Nothing to brag or comment about.  Now that school is back up I am looking forward to hitting the gym at work 2-3 times per week.  It will surely help with some of the loose skin hanging around here as of late!

What a great weekend to spend at the poolside!  This will probably be the last time I will have the chance to just "enjoy" the natural B-12 this year.  I am totally loving it!

I hope everyone had a great holiday and that you are starting your week off on a great note!

Take care ~ Amber

Check-up with my surgeon

Aug 11, 2008

I finally had my appt with Dr. Graniero Friday.  He is pleased with my progress.  He said my labs all look wonderful and that I am getting in all of my protein!  I told him that I have been at a stand still for the last month or so and he said that I am either not getting in enough excerise and or taking in too many calories.  He said an average person burns 2,000 calories per day.  He said that when I have a protein bar during the day...to count that as a meal.  I usually have my protein drink for breakfast and mid morning I have a protein bar.  I order them from bariatric choice on-line, so they are better than the store boughten kind.  So, I am trying to "ween" myself from them in between meals.  I know my water intake could be a little better.  I usually have at least 3 bottles of water a day, but I could use more I am sure!  I do find myself more "hungry"; hence, I usually have a protein bar mid morning and mid afternoon.  I eat light during lunch and dinner, too.  Ohwell, I will continue to plug away with this whole "new" learning process!

Well, my guy left yesterday.  He is in Maryland for about a month and a half for stateside training of his new job in Iraq.  After his training, he might be able to come home for a couple days - week before heading overseas.  Then he will be gone at least a year.  You would think it would start becoming easier each time he leaves, but I hate the first couple of days.  I feel such a low and so alone...an empty feeling inside of me.  It's hard to keep my eyes dry.  Even though we had some rough waters while he was home, I love that big lug!!  Grrrrrr

The weather here is CRAZY!!  I can't believe it is August and the temps struggle to get into the mid 70's.  Dang it, I must have jinxed myself when I bought my pool.  I haven't been in it enough to say so!!!!!!!  I wouldn't mind some 90-100 degree temps for a week or two...just to get some use out of the darn pool!!

Well, I should get back to work...I hope everyone is doing well and moves forward!

Take care ~ Amber

6 months post-op

Jul 22, 2008

Amazing...6 months  has passed since my RNY!  I was suppose to see my surgeon today, but they had to reschedule for 8 Aug 08.  I have to call his office tomorrow to get my lab results to see what I need to adjust with my vitamins, etc.  I was kinda excited to see what he had to say about my progress.   I have stalled for a few weeks now.  I am always thankful when I get on the scales and the number doesn't go up.  It has been at one number...right to the ounce...for 3 weeks now!!  Pretty strange, isn't it?!?!?

I had someone ask me the other day if I had any regrets with the surgery and I said..."absolutely NOT"!!  I would recommend it to anyone who is interested and can qualify for it!

Things are not going as well as I would like with "my guy".  He has been pretty selfish lately and doesn't want to include me or my son in anything he does these days.  I thought he would have wanted to be with me as much as he could since he has been gone for so long and is looking to go back any second...to Iraq.  Grrrrrr...I don't know what it is.  I have a lot of soal searching to do these days I guess.

My son has been busy this summer with Summer camp, super stage each day of the week, and playing AYSO soccer two nights a week.  My relationship strain is surely taking it's toll on him, also...and trust me...it has NOTHING to do with my weight loss!!!

Well, that is pretty much it for now.  I wish all of you a wonderful day and continue to do well in your life's journey!

Take care ~ Amber

Last Day of June Already!!

Jun 30, 2008

Boy, is time ever flying right by!  Since my guy has come home from Iraq it has been one thing right after another!  We're not quite sure when he is leaving again, so we are trying to get as much in as possible!  It has been great having him home!

School is finally over for my son.  School is not his favorite thing to do, so summer couldn't come fast enough for him!  It is very hard to believe he is going to be in the 8th grade in the fall.  It seems like just yesterday he was heading off to pre-school!!!

We are trying to get some plan in for the fourth of July this weekend.  Not sure what the final game plan is as of yet, though.  We might take the Harley out for a ride or have a cook-out at the house with the "new pool".  Not sure yet.  We are kinda the "last minute folks" when it comes to planning things like this.

The weight loss is still slow, but that is okay.  I go for my 6-month checkup on 22 Jul 08.  I plan on having my bloodwork done a couple of weeks before then so they have the results back by then.  I am sure my surgeon will be satisfied with my progress.

Well, everyone, I hope your summer is going wonderfully...just as mine is!  Enjoy the nice weather because before you know it...there will be that darn cold weather coming right at us!

Take care ~ Amber

ONLY ONE MORE DAY...

Jun 03, 2008

...until my guy is FINALLY home!!  He took an extended stay over in Iraq after he put in his 1 month notice.  He is outprocessing at Fort Benning, GA right now and will hopefully fly into Syracuse, NY tomorrow...Thursday at the latest.  It truly seems like forever since he left back in January!!

The weight loss is slow but sure.  Just a 1/2 pound here and there.  Nothing too major to have posted about lately.  I finally have my pool up and running.  It took over a month to get the manpower and cooperation from mother nature to finally get it all done.  We just have to work on putting the deck together now.  At least the temps have not been teasing us!!  It has been cooler than normal for this time of year here in northern NY.

My hair continues to enjoy falling out heavily these days.  I just keep telling myself to stick with the protein and to know it is only temporary.   I hope to get a few updated pics on here in the next couple of weeks!

I hope all is well with everyone reading this entry and continue to have a great day!!  ~  Amber

Only 2 more weeks...

Apr 29, 2008

...until my guy comes home from Iraq!!  He left the day after I got home from the hospital over three months ago.  I CAN'T WAIT if you know what I mean!!!  I don't know how long he plans on staying home this time, but I will surely make the most of it!  I am going to have the Harley all shined up for him so we can hit the road as soon as he is back, too!  We plan on going to the Americade Bike Rally during the week of 2 Jun - 7 Jun.  That is held up in Lake George, NY.  It will be my first time going to that and I am looking forward to it.

I am hoping to have the pool and deck set up before he gets back home, too.  That is a big task, so cross your fingers for me!  It is a 27' round above ground pool with a 20'x30' deck wrapped around most of it.  I know my 13 year old son will enjoy that this summer!  Speaking of my son, his 13th birthday is Monday, 5 May.  I have rented a jacuzzi suite for him and a couple of his buddies.  They can enjoy that as well as the indoor heated swimming pool, too.  We will order in some pizzas and hopefully catch a good movie or two if they choose!!  I hope everyone one will enjoy this little "mini-break"!

Slow but steady on the weight loss.  I have seen 181, but hold steady today at 183.  There are foods that I am starting to try that I haven't had since before Thanksgiving last year.  I still get full very quickly which is what the RNY is all about.  The water and proteins are still a very important part of my schedule every day.

I hope things are going well for everyone reading this post.  If anyone has any questions (post or pre op) please do not hesitate to ask!!

Take care ~ Amber
