2/15/07:  It has been quite some time since I have been active on this page.  I have gone through many changes both positive & negative, however, overall I am still very happy with my decision.  I am now 3 years post op and have lost over 200 lb.  I had to have a second surgery back in 2005 for an intestinal hernia, diseased gallbladder & unhealed openings from the original surgery.  Dr. Champion was wonderful & got me through this difficult time.  Since then I have felt so much better & have been doing great.  I was disappointed to find that the weight I do better at is a little higher than my "ideal" weight, but health is the key.  Now, the next phase....  I am happy to report that my husband & I are expecting our 1st baby!!!  Something I could not have achieved 3 years ago - not safely anyway.  We are anxiously awaiting my next prenatal visit when I can find out the initial "okay" baby check where we can hear that heartbeat.  I must say this is the most exciting yet nerve racking time in my life.  Hopefully, I will be back after 3/1/07  with good news.  I hope all is well for everyone.  My new email is:  [email protected].  God bless and many prayers:)

2/22/07:  Just a quick hello and info sharing.  I received info from Dr. Champion's nurse in regard to many OB-GYN's wanting to perform a Glucose Tolerance Test on pregnant patients.  I am aware of this from previous experience as a nurse.  The purpose for NORMAL patients (i.e. no gastric bypass) is to evaluate to possibility of gestational diabetes.  Common in some predisposed patients or those at gestational age of 35+.  However, in gastric bypass patients this can result in SEVERE dumping syndrome and could even harm your baby.  It is extremely important that you talk to your surgeon about this and advise your OB-GYN or midwife as well.  Furthermore, the test is 100% inaccurate in post-ops.  This is because of our new anatomy and the way that sugars enter the intestines.  I hope this info helps.  Be back next week after my appt - hopefully with wonderful news.  God Bless:)
