Initial Visit

Oct 17, 2012

Today was my first visit. I had a thorough assessment and counseling on what to expect after the surgery. I found out my insurance wil not cover a sleve, which was originally my first choice, so I will have a RNY. Insurance also requires a 3 month waiting period. In these 3 months I need to lose 20 pounds, get a sleep apnea study done, upper GI or barium swallow study, and a psych eval. I also need to see my primary care doc on a monthly basis to track my progress and in a few months get my pre op clearance. My weight is 251, pretty close to my all time high of 260.

The nutritionist (NUT) said this time should be used as a transition period. Wean off the carbonated drinks, caffeine, sugary, high fat and fried foods. He also recommended taking 30 minutes to finish my three meals and snack. This probably will be difficult as I tend to INHALE my food! In addition, a multivitamin, Vitamin D, and probioics are required

The last two weeks will be a liquid diet mainly consisting of protein shakes and water. I'm looking forward to it, weird huh? The NUT and doc said the liquid diet is not a requirement as my BMI is below 40 but it will likely benefit the recovery process.

No more skipping meals, no more excuses, this is the real deal!

LET'S DO THIS!!!
