long time coming..

Apr 13, 2010

it has been a whiiile since i've logged onto this site. after surgery, i kept up with support groups and everything.. who knew the online site would be the one i'd forget? (with the occasional vitamin!)

anyhow, i'm a litle over 8 months out. i went from 318 pounds on august 5, 2009 to 196 pounds today, april 13, 2010.

the journey has been great with a few minor speed bumps. i'm enjoying shopping at regular people stores now, haha. i've got 40 more pounds to get to goal, but now i'm more concentrated on toning.

so far, so good! and i couldn't have done it without all of my OH friends!! love you guys. :)

woohoo!

Mar 26, 2009

so.. today was my first consultation with dr. pohl. as i was sitting in the waiting room, i was excited and nervous all mixed together. but! i was prepared.. i had all of my weights since i was born typed up, everything i've done to try and lose weight, doctor's letters, etc. (and jules, i told him you helped me prepare, haha.) so i got called in and it wasn't too much longer til he came in the room. he asked me his questions, looked everything over, and told me he thinks i am a very good candidate for this surgery. :D i told him i got the ball rolling already and knocked a lot of appointments out of the way, which he should be receiving results for soon. this meassss.. i've got my endoscopy left and that's it! the reality is setting in and i'm super happy! (just as you said, rob!) can't wait for the phone call for that appointment.. haha. :)

the ball's in my court..

Feb 24, 2009

well, i have my first appointment with dr. pohl on march 26th, which of course i am excited about! i remember at the seminar he said we could get a head start and do some of the testing beforehand to speed up the process. so today i called and made all of the appointments in my packet (besides the cardiologist and the endoscopy) so i'm souped!! good news is they're all scheduled before i see dr. pohl. of course some are multiple day appointments and what not, but i'm just happy to get the ball rolling. woohoo!

see you guys march 7th @ bowling!

are people always this rude?

[00:43] Zilla9: ugh, dont do the gastric bypass surgury! there are lots of horror stories and then for the rest of your life you wont get all the nutrients you need and will have more than just digestive problems
[00:44] drunken laughs: there are horror stories, but also many good stories. people who have horror stories are those who don't take care of themselves properly. and i suppose that's what protein shakes and vitamin supplement pills are for.
[00:44] Zilla9: (auto-response from Zilla9) I am away from my computer right now.
[00:44] drunken laughs: trust me, you can't just get the surgery.. there's a lot to it.
[00:46] Zilla9: I think there are many much healthier and less permanent and dangerous solutions to weight management
[00:46] Zilla9: idk much about it, but Im betting that lat band is a smarter alternative
[00:46] drunken laughs: there isn't when you've tried everything.. i'm not sure you have room to pass judgement when you barely know me and what i've been through.
[00:47] Zilla9:  then why not try something else first?.
[00:47] drunken laughs: and no, the lap band isn't. there's actually more problems with that than there is with the bypass. also, you're only guaranteed to lose a little, i need to lose much more than that. and if the band doesn't work, most insurances will not cover the bypass.
[00:49] drunken laughs: gastric bypass surgery isn't a first attempt to lose weight for anyone. do you have any idea what they make you go through before they even think about approving you for the surgery? i'm sure you don't.
[00:51] Zilla9: sorry I was just concerned, but there are serious fundemental dangers to removing part of your digestive tract, both short and long-term, and not only will it affect your weight but you entire general health for the rest of your life
[00:53] Zilla9: whatever you and your doctor decide I wish you the best of luck and health, sorry for sticking my nose where it doesnt belong
[00:53] drunken laughs: deciding on this surgery isn't an overnight decision. i've been contemplating it since i was 17, when i was suggested to have it. here were are 7 years later, i think i've done my homework. and it will effect my health. being diagnosed at 23 with arthritis kind of sucks, so i'm looking forward to being healthy. again, i'm sure you know nothing about the surgery.. people only hear the bad in things. but thanks for your concern anyways.
[00:54] Zilla9: i thought they removed some of your small intestine too?
[00:55] drunken laughs: they have to reattach your intestine to your "new stomach" but that's it. and what does it matter anyways?! i'm the one getting the surgery. if i'm not scared of it, neither should you be.
[00:56] Zilla9: well sorry if i uspet you, have a goodnight
[00:57] drunken laughs: thanks.
[01:00] Zilla9: I thought the key to the dramatic results was not only from a samller stomach but shorter intetinal tract so that less is absorbed... otherwise your stomach will just grow/stretch again eventually... and if appetite is the concern there are other less extreme ways to deal with that
[01:00] Zilla9: Gastric bypass surgery makes the stomach smaller and allows food to bypass part of the small intestine.
[01:00] Zilla9: they do remove pasrt of your small intestine
[01:01] drunken laughs: are you getting the surgery? no. then mind your business. thanks. i don't need some smart ass who has never bothered to IM me before to sit here and try to school me on something i've read about and gone to classes about for seven years. if you want to help people, become a doctor.
[01:02] Zilla9: yeah less absorbtion will lead to other problems too, even make your arthtritis worse
[01:02] Zilla9: sorry for being concerned, and yes we talked b4,. jst not for a long time
[01:02] Zilla9: sorry I was concerned about your health, but seems like somoe is very obnsessive that they dont want to even hear about the risks
[01:03] drunken laughs: you have no idea what you're talking about. less absorbtion, yes.. but that's why you take vitamins, etc. they're not stupid when it comes to this, they have it all figured out. they're not going to leave people malnourished. the point of the surgery is to get people healthier. and weighing less will help my arthritis. also help in the recovery of my knee surgeries.
[01:04] drunken laughs: i know about the risks. you are speaking from what you hear about, and not from facts.
[01:04] Zilla9: that is true, hope you will enjoy having problems pooping for the rest of your life too
[01:04] drunken laughs: lol, you are ridiculous. stop IMing me.
[01:05] drunken laughs: stop IMing me includes you to stop typing. thanks. have a good one.
[01:06] Zilla9: I am speaking from logic and reason, and not desperation and emotion, and I encourage intellectual debate, and with subject like this you should too... and you are a bitch
[01:06] Meebo Message: Zilla9 is offline
[01:06] drunken laughs: lmao @ desperation. and you're an asshole. don't speak about what you don't know about. it doesn't work out so well for you
