Onederland! Woo-hoo!

May 21, 2007

Wow!  I can't believe it has really been this long since I last posted.  I guess things just get away from you.  I have found Onederland!  Woo-hoo!  I am down to 196 as of this morning.  I really can't remember the last time I was below 200!  In 2004, my husband and I both did low carb and I lost really fast but never got below the 200 mark as much as I tried.  I'm loving this.  I am starting to actually feel small.  I know I'm not yet but it is a good feeling being able to cross my legs again and reach places on my body that I haven't been able to reach lately.  I talked my DH into doing my measurements last night so I will post them in another post.  I am wearing a size 18 jeans but they are big but I still have a "muffin top" in the 16's.  I am hoping soon!  I find I still eat things that get "stuck" or maybe I just eat too fast and it is uncomfortable but I can easily make myself sick to take care of it.  The hardest part of all this is that I no longer want to cook for my family.  I just have no interest in food that way.  I don't mind just having some chicken salad on crackers for dinner but that is no dinner for them.  I need to work on that.

2 months, 1 week

Apr 20, 2007

Well, now I see how the post get further and further apart.  It has been 2 months and one week since my surgery and I hit the 40lb mark today!  Woo-hoo!  I was doing the happy dance!  4 more pounds and I will have found onederland!  I can't believe I have 40 lbs gone for good!  I went and picked up a couple pairs of size 16 jeans, I am still wearing my 20's but they are loose enough that I can pull them down without unzipping or unsnapping them.  I got the new jeans home and held them up and thought "No way am I getting my big butt in those".  Well my husband encouraged me to try them on so I did.  Well I got my butt in them and it won't be long before I will be zipping and snapping them too!  I've had a couple episodes of things that didn't agree with me and I think that it is usually becasue I ate too fast or just didn't chew well enough.  I am pretty good about getting all my water in and add protien to things like yogurt to help get enough of that in.  I am finding a lot more hair in the comb in the morning when I'm combing.  I am hoping that the total hair loss is not as bad as I have read from other post.  I am still walking and have the speed up to 3 mph and walk for 30 almost every day.

One month check-up

Mar 21, 2007

Well, I had my one month and I am down 24 lbs by the doctor's scales and 28 lbs on mine.  I have started "real" foods and have found that I am not going to be one of the lucky non-pukers!  I find if it is really moist I don't have  a problem but if it is a little dry or doens't have a sauce on it, forget it and it is really painful when it just sits in the pouch trying to go down.  Bringing it back up becomes a real relief!  I'm not having any problems getting my water in (so long as food doesn't get stuck!) and have been walking the treadmill most every day.  I want to up my protein and I have ordered Profect sample to try.  They have 24 grams of protein and I think if I like the taste it will be a good way to help up my intake.  I am currently doing a protein shake for breakfast, egg salad on crackers or meatballs in spaghetti sauce for lunch, meat in sauce (chicken in honey mustard sauce) for dinner with occational yogurts or cottage cheese for snack.

1 month post-op

Twenty pounds was the official weight loss at the doctors but my scales at home show a loss of 25.  Again I think the time/clothing/food/water make a difference with their scales.  I am comfortably back into my size 20 jeans.  I haven't lost anything in the last few days but I also started my cycle so I suppose I should be glad I haven't gained!  I do really good at getting my water in (60-70 oz.).  I have a protien shake for breakfast and lunch and am just starting to add real food for dinners.  Sometimes I don't think I am getting quite enough protein in.  I am walking on my treadmill nearly everyday for 30 minutes at a speed of 2.6 mph.  I have also been trying to jump on the eliptical for even a few minutes after.  I am glad to be able to start some real foods and I am hoping that my body can tolerate things okay.

Offical weight loss

Feb 20, 2007

Well 15 lbs is the offical total.  I am starting to feel it in my pants now that some of the swelling has gone down.

1 week

Feb 19, 2007

Well, I'm one week out and what a difference a week makes!  I feel so much better.  I am still a little sore on the left side though.  I weighed 236 right before going into surgery.  Everything went really well there, no complications.  I was taken in around 1:45 and woke up in my room around 6.  The only thing I could have was ice chips but that was okay I wasn't up to too much.  I did get up and walk around a little that night.  The next day, ice chips all day.  I really wanted to drink some water by then.  I got up and walked twice that day.  By the third day I was getting really physically tired (I think this comes from lack of protiens or sugars for your body to burn for energy) but I was going down for my x-ray.  They took me down for that around 9, so once that was clear, I was cleared to drink and have clear liquids.  Yeah!  They brought me broth, tea, 2 oz fat free milk, and 1 oz sf jello.  Well I was able to drink the milk and had maybe 1/4 of the jello and that was it.  Then I was having trouble getting all the water down they wanted you to drink.  By the fourth day I was ready to come home.  Dr. McKane had come to see me the first two days after surgery, he assisted Dr. Moon.  Dr Moon came to see me the day I was to go home.  He is an awesome person/surgeon and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking into lap RNY in this area.  He removed my drain and bandaged it and sent me on my way.  I really had a hard time getting all the water in but made sure I got at least three servings of ff milk.  I am now not having any trouble with the water and have upped the amount of milk I drink per "meal".  I occasionally have jello or sf popsicles too.  I weighed myself this morning and I was 227.4 for a loss of 8 lbs.  I have my 1 week appointment tomorrow so I will post the offical loss then.

I'm home!

Feb 15, 2007

Well, I'm home and on the other side!  I can't say the grass looks much greener right now but I am still sore and have trouble getting all the liquids in.  Going to rest up some more and will post more later when I am feeling more up to it.  God Bless everyone and thanks for all the posts!

Today is the day!

Feb 11, 2007

Well, today is the day.  I was down another pound this morning so I am starting at 236.  Wish me luck!  I'll post again once I'm on the other side!  TTFN.

One day to go

Feb 10, 2007

Well, I made it through yesterday.  I was a little hungry a couple of times but nothing too bad.  I just have to make it through today and tomorrow morning.  I am scheduled to be at the hospital by 10 am, but they didn't say what time my surgery was scheduled for.  I figure that way you won't know if they are running late or not. LOL!  I lost 2 pounds from yesterday.  My home scales weigh me in at 237 which is down over 7 pounds from the doctors (midday, fully clothed w/shoes on) weight of 245.9.  He said I couldn't gain before the surgery or he would cancel.  I don't see that happening, and no way would  I let it!  Thanks again for your well wishes.  Good luck to everyone else traveling to the other side with me!  Thanks Celest for your recent post.  All the support is wonderful!

Liquid diet

Feb 09, 2007

Today I start my 2 day liquid diet in prep for my surgery on Monday.  My doctor does the liquid diet instead of the flush, which I think I am happy for.  I haven't heard good things about the flush.  I don't think this will be all that bad.  I'm a little hungry but I am used to drinking plenty of water.  I have my SF jello and popsicles and also have a variety of 100% juices.  I think as long as I keep myself busy I will get through this without much problem.  I feel like a little kid on Christmas eve.  I am so excited for Monday to come!  I have my measurements but will probably only update these like once a month.
