6 Months Post-op

Oct 15, 2008

Just a quick update....6 months after surgery, I have lost 110 pounds. I have approx 79 pounds to go before I reach a normal BMI.

I have felt great and am loving my new life. The last 2-3 weeks I haven't been as good with getting my exercise in as I had been, but I am working on that. My last labs were all great, but my protein was slightly low...not much. I plan to start back on protein supplements really soon though.

I just got back from a week-long vacation and it was so nice to be able to walk, climb stairs, etc without having to get out of breath or stop along the way. I think my boyfriend definitely enjoyed this trip better than some before I lost the weight.

I have started losing my hair a little. It was already thin from PCOS to begin with, but now I'm losing whole strands of hair in the shower, when I brush my hair, etc. I know that's fairly normal and temporary, but I admit that it does bother me a little. That's probably been my biggest complaint so far, and even that isn't too bad. Most of the other PCOS symptoms have vanished since surgery, so that's great. My doctors now think that I can probably try to have a baby in about another year or so. I was infertile before so I had resigned myself to never having children. Needless to say, my biological clock has started ticking since I've realized it's a possibility now. lol

Life is good and I am so thankful to God for giving me this second chance...the chance to be an active participant in my own life, which is something I really wasn't before. Before I feel like I was watching my own life just pass me by.

Recovering at home

Apr 18, 2008

I had my surgery on Tuesday April 15th, 2008. Everything went great and I got home the next day by lunchtime. Recovery at home has been going very well so far. The main thing I've had to deal with at times is a little gas, but it hasn't been unbearable. I've already been walking on the treadmill 2-3 times a day for about 10-15 minutes and I got out of the house yesterday for a few hours riding in a car.

I'm doing very well and looking forward to moving forward with each step of recovery. I plan to go back to work after 2 weeks, hopefully, and am even planning to go on a weekend beach trip with my church singles group just 10 days after surgery...if my surgeon releases me, of course. I'll be taking it easy on the trip so it shouldn't be a problem, I wouldn't think.

Thanks to all of you who have sent well-wishes and have prayed for my surgery and recovery!

Finally Approved

Jan 12, 2008

After trying with various insurance policies over the last few years and being denied each time, I am excited to say that I was approved yesterday by my company's new insurance. They approved me after less than a week and my surgery is scheduled for April 8th, 2008. I'll try to blog and update whenever I can.
