Update:

Hi, my name is Nicole and I had RNY 2/12/2008. As of writing this on 7/20/2009 I've lost 105 lbs. I am not at my goal weight but am hoping over the next year to reach a goal weight of 175 lbs. That is another 65 lbs for me. Doesn't sound too bad!!

I am a mechanical engineer currently working for the military as a contractor. I am married but recently separated. I still do not know the status of my relationship but I asked him to leave when I realized my relationship with him was making me feel like eating to cope. I know that only I can make me happy but that requires you to sometimes change your situation. I own my own home, have two cats and a dog and volunteer for lucky cat rescue (www.luckycatrescue.com) and Big Brothers Big Sisters. I am currently in therapy for my eating issues as well as depression and anxiety.

My hope is that one day I will live free of negative feelings toward myself and be at peace with who i am, warts and all.

Written before surgery:

Hi, my name is Nicole and I am about to become a gastric bypass patient. I have been overweight all my life and have a number of co-morbidities that have caused me to take this extreme action. I have PCOS, Insulin Resistance, Gluten Intolerance (just found out), Sleep Apnea, Binge Eating Disorder, Depression.

I'm 30 years old and have been in therapy a long time to try and overcome my overeating. Unfortunately, it is the one thing that I can't seem to change on any type of permanent basis. I have PCOS and want to have kids so I have to do this now or never. I am married to a very wonderful and supportive husband. He is with me 100%. I love him so much. I have a full life except that I am only half living it. I can't wait to be there all the way.
