17 Months Post-Op

Feb 10, 2010

It has been a long time since I have posted, but I am still alive and well!  I am 17 months post-op and I am a little below my goal.  I lost an additional 10 pounds in 2 weeks when I had my appendectomy back in August.  My surgeon assured me that I would gain that back.  He wasn't concerned.  I have gained 6 pounds of it back and although I am still below my goal, it is really hard watching that scale go back up!  The only bad news that I have to share is...I can tolerate some sugar now!  I made the decision when I had this surgery that I would not try anything that I felt help contribute to my obesity in the first place, such as sugar, until I was at my goal.  Well, when I was 12 pounds below my goal and sick looking (my opinion), I thought it was a great time to try the sugar again.  Don't get wrong, I don't sit around cramming my face full of chocolate, but if I want a piece of candy, I'm going to eat a piece of candy.  I guess I am going on and on about this because it was brought to my attention that someone whom recently had Lap Band (not the same surgery) made the statement that it was "retarded" for me to eat sugar after I had gone without it for so long!  Well be careful what stones you throw when you are not even close to your own goal.  You don't know the journey unless you have traveled it!  And I will leave that alone now.  I am healthier than I have been in so many years.  I am very proud of my accompliments.  And I have absolutely no regrets about any decisions that I have made on my journey.
