10 weeks

Nov 09, 2009

It's been 10 weeks and I am down from 260 to 232, almost 30 pounds!  I could lose faster if I didn't cheat so much and drank more water and exercised more however.  Rushed eating and not enough time are taking their toll in the carbohydrate dept.  I eat way too many carbs.  My "tool" works tho...I can only eat up to half a cup and that is it.  If I eat a hot dog or something not on
the diet, I can only put down a small amount of it...no more big fattening meals.  Luckily I don't crave the things I used to crave that got me into so much trouble!

8 weeks post op sleeve

Oct 26, 2009

Weight loss is slow but comes off in "chunks".  I really can't say I am suffering at all.  I eat what I want, just smaller amounts.
I have to eat slowly...If I get too hungry or in a rush, I eat very fast and it fills up too fast and it won't go down!  The pylorus
only opens every 30 seconds and allows a little bit of food down!  I have to wait until the food goes down until I can feel not soo stuffed!
It is 8 weeks and I think the stomach lining is finally healed.  I still avoid citrus type things and have to take my prilosec twice a day.
I am down to 237 from 260.  I feel fantastic.  I walk further now.  I had trouble even walking before and getting out of breath.
I can bend over and feel comfortable doing it.  I feel clearer, lighter, faster, younger.

7 weeks post op sleeve

Oct 18, 2009

22 pounds lost, so I am losing about a half a pound a day.   The weight is coming off when I reduce my intake!!  Before surgery it just wouldn't budge no matter what!
My goal intake is 80 to 100 grams of protein a day(temporarily)later it will go down to 60 grams a day or so.  Less than 30 grams of fat per day, 1500 mg of salt per day.  A certain amount of carbohydrate is needed for brain and basic bodily function, I need to look up that number.  Carbohydrate from fruits, vegetables and whole grains that is.

I've found that I feel queasy and as if I am coming down with the flu if I eat high sugar items.
I try to eat small meals frequently since the body isn't going to absorb more than about 300 calories at a time.  If I overeat it will be stored as fat.
I'm drinking 2000IU of vitamin D per day.  I'm taking Bariatric Advantage multivitamins chewables on a full stomach, and their calcium chewables also.  I'm taking biotin once a day and vitamin B12 injection once a month.  It is guaranteed to be absorbed if it's injected!
Since I'm healed now, I can start lifting small weights to prevent the loss of muscle mass.  One can lose up to 75% muscle instead of fat during this weightloss, and I sure don't want that!

I can tie shoelaces(mine!)with no problem, and I can wear a standard fannypack now woohoo!
I want to walk now to see things rather than look from afar...just this little weightloss has already made a big difference in my behavior!

6 weeks post op sleeve 10-12-09

Oct 12, 2009

6 weeks!!! I'm healed!!! So why does my tummy hurt when I eat?( I eat too fast and swallow a lot of air?)
I started at 260 on Aug 31st and am hovering at 242.  Works out to 3 pounds per week, or about a half pound per day.
If I drank more water I think I could lose faster, but this is fast enough.  My new tummy feels best when it is empty so I  have
to carefully plan to eat.  I tend to be on the road a lot, so I am unfortunately still going to drive thru restaurants.  El Pollo Loco chicken breast a la cart, is my most common.  In n Out burger "protein style"(sans the bun). I ask for a glass of ice and put my low carb slimfast protein on the ice and it tastes like a chocolate shake and a burger!
Wendy's Chili, and McDonald's
wrap without the wrap.  If I eat too much or the wrong thing my tummy lets me know right away! My favorite is warm soup.
Have to be careful of salt, supposed to stay around 1800 mg salt per day.  The best part is that I feel lighter and better and clearer altogether.  My blood pressure is better, I am allowed to eliminate one BP med per month, if the BP readings are stable at 120/80.

9-29-09 4 weeks post op

Sep 29, 2009

It's been 4 weeks...I've lost 11 pounds.  From day 15 to 5 weeks post op my program wants us to eat soft foods...scrambled eggs, soft and mushy, flaky, overcooked vegetables, poultry, seafood. Soft ripe banana(about 2 inches).  Non fat yogurt, cottage cheese, baby food carrots or green beans, and protein supplements.  At 4 weeks I restart taking Calcium citrate.
Total calories around 1200, with 80 to 100 grams of protein.
I've had no problems with trying new foods unless I slip up and eat something with too much sugar in it, or eat too much...or
went to church and had communion bread and wine--yikes!  My little sleeve stomach felt like it had caught on fire!!
At 4 weeks I'm thinking of nicknames for my sleeve...

It is hard for me to separate fluids from the meal.  It's hard to drink water all day, and hard to get 80-100 grams of protein in.  I am using isopure apple melon for the protein and adding unflavored soy protein powder to my pudding and whenever I think of it.  I also have some banana strawberry protein powder to add to pudding etc to get more protein in.  I want different food all of the time so I spend a lot of time at the grocery store looking for sugar free, low sodium, low carbohydrate,no saturated fats kinds of foods.  It is like an Easter egg hunt at the grocery store! (Trader Joes has lists of them if you request)
Online is a huge resource also.  Our chatroom is the very best for information and ideas for food...love the people in our chatroom!

By the way...I still want all those fattening foods, but my tastes have changed enough so I can just be satisfied with their aroma or looking at them.  It's still dieting, still takes self control and planning and cutting back on what I want...the  smaller stomach is just helping me eat smaller amounts at a time.  I can eat small amounts all day and gain weight, so I have to count calories and choose sugar free, low fat, high protein food.
