"I started my search for a Lap-Band surgeon when I realized my insurance (BC/BS of Florida Health Options) would not cover the procedure. I was surgery shopping. I came upon Dr. Kirshenbaum's name through the website lapbandtalk.com and read some glowing reviews. What most impressed me was he reduced his price to entice people from going out of the country to obtain affordable surgery. When I called his office, I found the staff informative and friendly. \"Marilyn\" answered my questions and really gave me a sense of ease. I made my decision to go with Dr. Kirshenbaum because his price was very fair, and the doctor is a laparoscopic surgeon having performed over 10,000 surgeries. That was important to me because I am so overweight. I wanted a skilled physician with extensive experience and Dr. K met that criteria. rnSince I live in Florida and his office is in Colorado, we did our pre-op consultation by phone. He emailed me a Power Point file of the procedure and talked me through it. VERY tech friendly. He is also a good teacher. As an educator I appreciate someone who can articulate clearly something that I am not familiar with. He did a wonderful job explaining the process to me.rnMy surgery occurred on April 17th. April 16th my husband and I flew into Denver. This airport is very large and the luggage area requires boarding a shuttle to get over to claims. I requested transport via golf cart so I did not have to walk the distance. We stayed at the Holiday Inn across from the Crowne where my surgery took place. This is located in Aurora, Colorado. The surgery facility is new, very clean, beautifully designed with a lovely courtyard with bronze statues. Once I was registered, in my gown and ready for surgery I relaxed. Reflecting back to that moment, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I found Dr. K a warm and caring doctor who was very reassuring. Being severely morbidly obese, I came to Colorado already feeling emotionally fragile and Dr. K offered encouraging words with a professional edge. I knew going into this procedure, as with all surgery, there were risks, but looking back, I do not regret my decision. My recovery period went fairly quick compared to another procedure I had done here in Florida. I believe that surgeons have a special touch with the human body, Dr. K is no exception. Post-op I had one fill done locally here in Florida, finding my port seemed to be a problem and I left the facility nauseated and sore. I decided flying back to Dr. Kirshenbaum and continuing with my fills by him was the better choice for me. He has a very gentle touch and seems to tap my internal port with ease. rnNutrionist consult was done on the phone, however, it would have been more beneficial to have access to her services to answer a few questions once I had my surgery. Additional consultations with her are $150. rn ** I highly recommend this doctor.
