Telling Family/Friends

Jul 18, 2010

I read someone's blog tonight talking about their apprehensions at sharing their choice with their family/friends.  I'm actually nervous about that part too.  I've told my mom/stepdad and dad/stepmom, they were all elated.  I plan on telling the rest of my family once a date is set.  I know they'll just be happy that I'm doing something about my health and making a choice to do it. As for my friends, I've told four of my friends.  I also told my Supervisor at work because she's going to have to help me get a replacement while I'm gone.  I'm a school librarian and I know that someone is going to have to fill in for me.  That's where my concern comes in-I've got to tell my Principal at some point, and at an elementary school news travels fast, so I think I'm going to just tell people when they ask, that way I don't have to try to remember who I told and who I didn't.  I'm sure they'd all know anyone since we have all of the gossipers!  There was a lady that got some kind of surgery last year---she didn't tell anyone but came back and lost a LOT of weight and it honestly was pretty obvious to all of us that she had something done, and she chose not to tell anyone, and it was just kinda weird.  We all knew she had done something but didn't really know what to say, so I think that it would be best if I'm upfront about it.  There was another girl that I had gone to school with as well as working with for a while, and I saw her after I hadn't seen her for a while, and she had lost a drastic amount of weight.  When I asked her what she did she told me she had WLS.  I don't remember what she had-think it might have been gastric bypass,  and she looked good and was very up front about things.  Any recommendations?
