My story starts when I was young. I found out from my parents that I started "gaining weight" when I was about 8 or so. I remember shopping in the "pretty plus" section for clothes and feeling ashamed even then. I have been overweight ever since. I never really kept track of my weight in numbers until I went in to have my daughter in 2000. At the time of check in at the hospital, I weighed 319. I have been keeping up with my weight numbers ever since. I pretty much stayed at the same weight for about 5 years. I do have to mention that in that time, I was smoking 1 to 1 1/2 packs of cigarettes a day which I think had a lot to do with it. In April 2005, I quit smoking and my weight has ballooned up because of it. Now I am at 365 and hating every pound. I am so mad that I let myself get this big. I was looking online at all the weight loss programs, just like I had been doing for about 2 years or so, and was about to start Weight Watchers again when I came across the Midsouth Bariatrics website. After reading about the Lap Band, I knew that is what I needed. I have a big problem with portion sizes. Two double cheeseburgers would be a serving to me. Now that's bad. I would like to eat a smaller portion but it just don't fill me up. I discussed this with my mom, who is overweight herself, and she thought I needed to proceed with it. We found out about a seminar that discusses the procedure and went to it. The rest is now my weight loss journey.........
