Just had my 2 year Surgery Anniversary

Mar 22, 2010

Think it's time to post again!  I just passed my 2 year Surgery Anniversary on March 17th.
I'm holding my own now for over a year.  I'm 6 pounds below my Dr's goal weight for me...and I'm happy it.
I'm starting to worry about gaining my weight back.  I'm not eating like I should...and have found that
I can hold more food now than I could a year ago...and this worries me.  I still have the cravings for all the
foods that got me here in the first place.  I don't think that part will ever go away.  Grazing is a real problem
for me at this point.  I tend to want to have something to chew on a lot!  I don't like it and know that I've got
to start now and get back on track before I start regaining weight.

We just returned from a trip to Monterrey Old Mexico.  We took my younger sister Nyla to have gastric bypass.
She did great!!!  No complications at all...except for a few times....throwing up...she'll learn what she can and
can't eat.  We all have to try foods..and it doesn't take long to know what you can and can't handle.  I'm lucky...
I don't throw up...but wish I could! lol

My older sister had her surgery too...and has lost 174 pounds.  All three of us girls have been able to get the
surgery...and I'm so thankful that's it's turned our lives around.  Just being able to bend over, play in the floor with
the grandbabies, walk, etc...has made it all so worth while.  I would have the surgery angain in a heart beat.

It's been 1 year!!!!

Apr 08, 2009

I had my one year checkup on March 17th.  I am still 10-12 pounds below my Dr's goal.  I feel great...and for the first time in many years, I'm able to work out in my yard.  I'm amazed everyday at the energy I have.  It's been so worth it....and I thank everyone for all the support you've given.  I know that this journey is not over, and I will have to continually watch my diet, foods I eat, and apply what I've learned this past year.   Yes, I still have wants and desires for foods that I know will make me sick.  Yes, I've tried eating those things and I get very ill!  I'm not gaining and don't want to.  I still fight the battle of wanting to graze, but I'm taking it one day at a time.  I have to remind myself everyday that my surgery will not work magic...but my tool still works, and I need to take care of it.  Even though I'm below my goal...the battle is not won!   It's a daily challenge to abide by the rules, and stick to the plan.

9 Month Checkup

Jan 11, 2009

I had my 9 month checkup on December 19th.  My Doc was very pleased with my accomplishment.  My goal was originally set at 171 and I was ALREADY under goal by 3 pounds.  I can proudly say...today I'm 8 pounds under goal.  Whoopieeeee!!!!  I feel so much better than I did one year ago.  I'm amazed everyday at the huge energy level that I now have.  I catch myself doing things that a year ago....there would have been no way!  I still have trouble getting in my daily protein and water.  I do eat healthy now!   My year checkup will be on March 19th...so until then.....

6 Month Checkup was the 19th

Sep 28, 2008

I can't believe it's already been over 6 months since my surgery date.  I'm doing great and feel so much better!   My surgeon says I'm ahead of schedule on my weight loss.  I was down 96 pounds since my surgery on March 17th!!!!  Wow!!!  I was hoping to be down 100 pounds on my 6 month checkup, but didn't quiet make it.  However since my checkup I've lost more and I'm down 102 pounds!!!!!!  I could have never done this without the surgery.  Sure I could have lost some, like in the past, but always gained it back...plus more.  This time, it's gone for good!!  My body sure can feel the difference in not having to carry around those extra 100 pounds!  I can do things that I haven't been able to do in years.  If your reading this and considering WLS....and feel that you want it, but just scared to follow through....my advice is to GO FOR IT!!!!  You will not regret it, I only wish I could have had my surgery years ago.  Before having my surgery, or when I first considered having WLS...I prayed and asked God...that if it be his will for me to have the surgery, that it would all go through and it did.  It was smooth sailing from the word "go" and the Insurance Company agreed to pay for it.  I really feel that it was in Gods will for me to have my surgery...and I'm so Thankful that it has all worked out so good.  Life is just better, when you feel good and can get around without hurting. Until next time......bye ;)

3 Months out and doing great!!

Weight at 3 mo. checkup - 237

I had my 3 month checkup on the 12th, and my Dr. said he is very pleased with how I am doing.  I was down 59 pounds since my surgery Date and 70 pounds since my consultation..which was one month before my WLS.  I was low in Vitamin B1 and had to get a shot.

I'm feeling really good and people are starting to notice that the weight is coming off.  I measured my hips and waist tonight and they are both 7 inches smaller than the night before surgery!  YEAH!!!

I was sitting in church yesterday and realized that I had crossed my legs ...without realizing it.....and the best part is I didn't even have to help lift my leg over the other leg!!! lol  It felt so good!!  I can buckle my seat belt now with no problem.

I don't regret having surgery for one second.  It has all been so worth it.  I would suggest to newbies to follow your heart and have the surgery if that's what you really want.  It's not a picnic...but it's really not that bad.  I felt pretty sore for the first couple of weeks..and since then...I've felt great!

I can't stay off the scales....so I've been weighing every morning, and I know that's not good....but wow it's so good to see those numbers going down every day!!  Dr. Syn says the weight loss will start slowing down...so I have to up the exercise.  I haven't done good exercising.

Will be back later.

Two Months Since WLS

May 18, 2008

Just had my two month anniversary since my surgery.  I'm doing good.  I'm waiting until my 3 month post op visit with Dr. Syn to update my weight.  I've been struggling lately with the amount of foods that I should or should not be eating.  I've been real good at staying away from high carb foods...and trying to eat my proteins first.  Still having so much trouble getting all my water down.  I've been drinking lots of unsweetened peach tea from Sonic, and it's been helping.  My exercise has gone by the way side.  Starting TODAY...I'm making a point to walk on my treadmill everyday at least 20 minutes twice a day.  Seems like my legs have lots of loose skin...and I'm sure it's from not getting enough exercise.  Until next time.........:)

One Month Followup

Apr 28, 2008

Ok...I'm late posting...but it's been so hectic around my house since my surgery.  I'm doing great, and feeling so good, with so much more energy.  I had lost exactly 30 pounds at my first month checkup!!!  Yea!!!!  I was pleased and so was my Dr.  He did tell me to start getting more exercise....I've got to start getting on my treadmill more.

My husband has been in the hospital three times in the past three weeks.  He's in the hospital now, so I try to spend as much time with him as I can...but I have to admit it's so hard to keep up with 6 meals a day and drink the 64 ounces of water.  I'm just NOT getting it all down.  I've lost more weight since my first month followup.  This morning I was down to 257 from the 307 on the day of my consultation!!!  It sure feels good to put on my clothes and them be to baggy to wear!!  Looks like I'm already needing some new tops and pants....but I hate to buy them to soon....with this weight dropping so fast.  Oh...but it feels so GOOD!  lol

This Week is My One Month Followup

Apr 13, 2008

I haven't posted in a few weeks.  This coming Thursday will be my one month followup.  I'm feeling so good and losing weight.  Thought I would wait until after my appointment and do a update on my loss.  Seems that I have trouble getting all my protein and water down.  I'm doing good most days.  Sometimes I worry that my pouch is not small enough, as I don't think I feel as full as I should after eating 3 ounces at a meal.  I'll post more after Thursday. Hope everyone has a great week.

First Week Check-up

Mar 26, 2008

Yesterday was my One Week Followup!! I had a 14 pound loss!!!! I was so glad to hear that news!!!!  Dr. Syn ,my surgeon, said he is very proud of me for the progress I have made....WOW!! that made me feel so good!  He started me back on my vitimins and prednisone...since they were irriating my stomach last week.  He said to start exercising more ....so I'm back on my treadmill, but it's going to take a while to work up to walking 20 minutes twice a day, but he says to do it in 5-10 min walks until I build up. I can handle that for now.  He also said I will be able to get off the pured foods in two weeks.  Boy am I grateful for that...I'm getting bored with pureed tuna, chicken, yogert, turkey, cottage cheese, jello. My protein shakes...will always be a part of my daily routine, and I enjoy them.

My heighest weight was 314 in Oct. of last year.

Oct 14. 2007  Weight = 314

March 17, 2008 Weight = 296 (Day of WLS)

March 25, 2008 Weight = 282 (one week post op)

April 17, 2008  Weight= 266 (one Month checkup)

I feel that I'm off to a good start.....and looking forward to all the great benefits coming my way.  Being Healthy and finely living a fuller life will be good!  Thanks for listening! :)
