New to this

Oct 22, 2010

So...I started this journey in August and have been pretty quiet about it so far.  I went to the seminar and immediately made appointments with my gyn and pcp.  I got my mammogram done, bloodwork, you name it!  I met with my surgeon in September, had my psych eval, had an endoscope and now I have 4 months of nutritional counseling to complete and that's it.  Pretty simple so far.

In preparation, I am researching this to death!  I'm a constant lurker on more than one forum, am soaking in the abundance of information from newbies and veterans alike.  I have even started changing my eating habits and am on a walking campaign!  I even went so far as to adopt a dog for a walking partner.  I had been debating getting one anyway since I'm a single girl and live alone, I knew it would be good to have a dog around for protection, companionship, etc.    I adopted an older dog from the SPCA and she is absolutely perfect!!  Let me tell you, she was born with a purpose and it was to be in my life for this journey!  She LOVES to go for long walks!  If I don't feel like walking, she's in my face giving me one of THOSE looks and I know that she is not going to leave me alone until I take her for a walk!!  I walk out the door hating life but return refreshed and so thankful for her!  Her name is Ruby and I absolutely love her!

So, I've been trudging through the whole exercise/dieting thing for several weeks now and haven't been perfect by any means.  I did give up soda's but am still hooked on my coffee in the morning.  I haven't noticed any changes in my clothes although the scale shows that I'm down 8lbs.  I'm not impressed yet, but it's a start.

Today at work...it's casual Friday so I am wearing jeans instead of my work clothes and 2 people have asked me if I'm losing weight!!  It really made my day and now as I sit here, I can't wait to go home and walk with Ruby....then enjoy a high protein dinner and may even celebrate with a SF fudgesicle or Jello Pudding for dessert!

Funny how it takes just one person to notice your efforts to motivate you to keep going and remind you that you are doing the right thing.  I can't wait for my RNY but until then, I'm putting a lot of the "rules" into action now.
