Twenty years ago, I was 125 pounds. I was on a Macrobiotic diet and I never felt better. Sometime around 15 years ago I was divorced and on the rebound from my next relationship and the pounds started to come on. I started a journey of the "See food" diet. See food and eat it. No longer on the Macrobiotic diet with its restrictions, I began to eat a lot of fast food and came down with type II Diabetes. I was hospitalized for Bipolar Disorder and the meds they gave me began to cause metabolic syndrome. I hovered around 200 pounds for a few years and finally my weight crept up to 270 pounds. I was ashamed and embarassed. In June 2008 I attended a seminar at the UW Bariatric Clinic. I had to wait until the Fall of 2009 for approval for band surgery. I had my surgery January 22, '10. I am looking forward to the journey ahead. I am a self described "wimp" when it comes to exercise, but I am optimistic that I will find the right path to shed the pounds as my surgeon impressed upon me. Exercise is key, he told me.
