Vitamin Rant

Feb 23, 2009

I am just baffled by the whole Flinstone's vitamin thing.  What kind of doctor recommends those, long term, to their patient?

Seriously.

Even before I had WLS, had I, as an adult woman in her thirties, decided to better my overall health by taking vitamins, would those really have been the first ones I checked out at the store?

Uh, no.

I am not a kid.  I am not interested in taking a vitamin designed for children. To me, that would be as absurd as grabbing a men's mult-vitamin (for myself) off the shelf, shrugging and figuring why the heck not.  I am a grown-up.  I am a woman.  I would have shopped for an ADULT vitamin, geared towards women!

So why, on Earth, would anyone think a children's multi-vit would suit their needs after a radical surgery where your intestines are altered?  How, exactly does one decide 'Hey, I'll just pop a few Fred's and be good'?

It just...blows my mind.

If you go into this surgery, truly in search of better overall health, and are willing to do all the hard work that goes along with maximizing your tool, please please please don't blow it by taking kiddie vitamins.

Ok, rant over.
