6 Days Post-Op

Oct 04, 2009

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I  haven't been around much, but my body just wanted to sleep.  Is that normal?Anyway, I am
6 days post-op. I am sore, especially on my left side. Biggest challenge to date is getting in my protein and hydration.
But there is excellent news. I am a type 2 diabetic, and I have high blood pressure.  The hospital had already taken me
off of my Avandamet, which is an oral diabetic med, and had also took me off of my nighttime insulin, Lantus Solostar.
They instructed me to drop my daytime insulin to 1/2 of my regular dose. When I took my fasting blood sugar yesterday
morning, it was only 139, which is usually what it is when I am on all my meds! Then I decided to weigh myself. I know, I said I wouldn't do that for a while. Well, the night before surgery, I weighed 241 lbs, as of yesterday morning, I weighed in at 231.6 lbs!  UNBELIEVABLE!  It has been a real motivator.

Allow me to back track just a bit to the hospital experience. Keep in mind that I can be a big baby when it comes to pain, so I asked friends and co-workers who have had the surgery, to be honest with me. The worst part of the hospital experience, was getting my JP drain taken out.  IT HURT! I'm not trying to scare anyone here, and please know it's different for everyone. I told the resident that took out my drain, that this caused more pain than having a 9lb baby, and I wasn't lying.  Was it worth it?  ABSOLUTELY! To all, who have upcoming surgeries, God Speed and best wishes!
Hugs,
Rita
